Chapter 30 At one time Alexander Banbury’s newest book about the final days of the Roman Empire would have kept Julien enthralled for hours. At the very least, it would have held his attention for more than twenty minutes, but this evening he could barely get through a page without his mind wandering. He might as well be trying to read one of the dusty Arthurian tomes that surrounded him for all the interest the Romans currently held. Setting the book aside, he rose and walked to the desk that was still buried under piles of papers.
