Chapter 2

Mateo’s POV I was working late again. I always worked late when I didn’t feel the need to do anything else. Feel is a wrong word for me. Mainly because I couldn’t feel anything. I’m always numb. It was something I had learnt to enjoy. Untucking my shirt from my briefs, I poured myself a glass of whiskey and stood at my window. Taking a sip, I glanced outside. I saw her walking to her vehicle. I’ve always being seeing her through my window, but I’ve never talked to her. I don’t know if that made me a coward. Who would want to associate with a freak? That’s the question I would ask myself every time the urge to go and talk to her felt strong. This time she felt my stare. I didn’t move. I stared at her and met her gaze as she looked at me. She was beautiful. Too bad you can’t have her, my mind said. Her gaze made the fire rise inside me. I could feel it boiling in my blood. The glass broke due to the heat, and she got into her vehicle. Had she seen it and turned away? Huffing out angrily, I threw the shredded pieces still in my hand onto the ground and walked out of my office. Getting into the bar next to my building I sat at the counter and ordered another glass of whiskey. The bartender gave me my drink and I drank it slowly. “Rough day?” she asked. “Yeah.” “Think I can help?” “And how would you help me?” I asked taking a huge sip of my drink. “Come to the back if you want to find out.” With that she left and went through a door to the back. I smirked to myself and down the drink in one swift motion. I may have a fire within, but she was the only one I wanted to be with. I knew how to control myself. She was the only one who made me lose control. I placed the money for the drink on the counter and walked out. I know how she wanted to help me, but I wasn’t up for it. The air outside was cold. Though I couldn’t quite feel the cold, but I knew it was there. It was winter after all. I hadn’t been able to have s*x with anyone snice I saw her. She had control over me and knew nothing about it. I got into my house and went to my room passing the study. I stared at it then left. I shouldn’t drink anymore tonight, I thought. I got into the shower and opened the tap with cold water. Allowing only little heat to dance on my skin the water steamed once it touched my body. Closing my eyes, I thought of how it would feel to have her hands on me. How it would feel to have her body pressed up against me. I was turned on at the mere thought of her and the bad thing was I couldn’t take a cold shower to cool off. Unless I tried ice and that still would melt faster than ever. I wrapped the white towel around my waist and brushed my teeth. I wore a pair of briefs and got into bed. The next day, at night I decided to call it quits early. I didn’t have any new cases to work on and everything else had been settled. I told my secretary to call me if anything new came up after I had left. What I didn’t expect was that I would meet her at that time. I saw her before she saw me. Her dark brown hair was down, and her blue blouse fitted her perfectly. Her black skirt was slightly above her knees. She looked extremely sexy as an office worker. Deciding to toy with dangerous waters I approached her. She stopped what she was doing and watched me cross the road and head towards her. Run, run away before I reach you, my mind told her, but she didn’t move. “Finally decided to stop staring?” she asked. “I thought I needed a better view and not from my office window,” I grinned at her, and she smile back at me. “I’m honored you think I’m pretty enough to be stared at, but I need to leave.” “Before you go,” I took a step towards her, and she took one back. Had she seen what happened yesterday with the glass? “Are you afraid of me?” I asked amused. “No,” she defended herself. “Then why run?” I moved towards her again. “I’m not running. I just don’t like the proximity.” Her back hit the wall and I stood in front of her. “you’re scared. Scared of something that might happen,” I said looking into her eyes. “I am not, and I’d prefer if you’d leave me alone,” she said as she tried not to show me how I affected her. The fire burned within me, and I tried to push it down. I couldn’t touch her with all this heat in me. Backing up away from her, I looked at her vehicle. It was an earlier model but quite durable. And idea came to mind, and I smiled at her charmingly. “Allow me to walk you to your vehicle then.” “Thank you…” “Mateo,” I offered my name to her. She smiled at me. “I’m Carlie.” Carlie, the name suited her petite shape. We reached her automobile, and I concentrated a little heat on my hand. I placed it on the vehicle and directed it to her engine. The front of her vehicle began emitting smoke. I opened the front shocked to see all the smoke. Well not necessarily shocked, only pretended to. “What happened?” “I don’t know,” I replied. She got in and tried to start the vehicle, but it was spoilt. She glared at me as if she knew I was responsible. “I can take you home. It’s getting late and we wouldn’t want a pretty lady such as yourself get into trouble.” She contemplated on the idea. She was debating with herself. “Fine. I don’t know what happened but I’m sure you had something to do with this.” “What could I have possibly done?” I asked her. “I don’t know yet, but I will figure it out.” I chuckled and opened the door for her. She didn’t look at me and I closed the door. I got into the other side and started the engine.
