“No,” I said fiercely, shaking my head, hot tears coming out of my eyes. “You’re not leaving me. You promised. You said you loved me.”
Her hand rested weakly against my cheek, her thumb brushing my skin one last time.
“I do… and… I’d… choose you again,” she whispered.

The bond shattered inside my chest like glass.
I held her there in the middle of the battlefield, smoke curling around us, the world still fighting while mine ended in silence.
