Ji-Hyun's heart skipped a beat as she turned to face Su-Ho. "Hey," she replied, trying to sound casual.
Su-Ho caught up to her, his long strides easily matching her hurried pace. "So, Ji-Hyun, what do you think of Yongpa High so far?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with interest.
Ji-Hyun shrugged, feeling a little shy. "It's okay, I guess. Still getting used to everything."
Su-Ho nodded sympathetically. "I know how you feel. I transferred here last year. It takes time to adjust."
They walked together in comfortable silence for a moment, Ji-Hyun stealing glances at Su-Ho.
"You know, Ji-Hyun," Su-Ho said, his voice low and gentle, "I have to say, I'm really glad you're here."
Ji-Hyun's heart fluttered at his words. No one had ever made her feel so welcome before.
"Thanks, Su-Ho," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
Su-Ho smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I'll show you around sometime, okay?"
Ji-Hyun nodded, feeling a sense of excitement at the prospect of spending more time with him.
As they approached Ji-Hyun's next classroom, Su-Ho hesitated. "I'll see you at lunch, okay?" he said, his eyes lingering on hers.
Ji-Hyun nodded, feeling a thrill at the promise of seeing him again. "Okay."
Su-Ho flashed her a charming smile before turning to leave. Ji-Hyun watched him go, her heart racing.
In class, Ji-Hyun struggled to focus. Her mind kept drifting back to Su-Ho – his smile, his eyes, his gentle manner.
At lunchtime, Ji-Hyun's nerves returned. What if Su-Ho forgot about their plans? Or worse, what if he only felt sorry for her?
As she entered the cafeteria, Ji-Hyun spotted Su-Ho waving at her from across the room. Her doubts vanished.
Su-Ho stood up, gesturing for her to join him. Ji-Hyun's heart skipped a beat as she approached.
"Hey," Su-Ho said, his eyes sparkling. "I saved you a seat."
Ji-Hyun smiled, feeling grateful. "Thanks."
As they sat down together, Ji-Hyun realized that Su-Ho's friends were staring at her – some with curiosity, others with suspicion.
"Guys, this is Ji-Hyun," Su-Ho introduced, his voice confident. "She's new here."
The group nodded, their expressions softening. Ji-Hyun felt a sense of belonging wash over her.
But one person caught her eye – a girl with piercing green eyes and long, curly hair. She looked familiar, yet Ji-Hyun couldn't place her.
"Who's that?" Ji-Hyun whispered to Su-Ho, nodding toward the girl.
Su-Ho followed her gaze. "That's Da-Hee, my ex-girlfriend."
Ji-Hyun's heart sank.
