Chapter Two: The shock

1279 Words
ANGEL'S POV. “How dare you enter my room without my permission?” The voice came like thunder, and my heart skipped to the point that I fell from the bed, trembling. I immediately stood up and turned to the door, and to my greatest surprise, standing before me was Alpha Alex Donald. The shock on my face was unexplainable. He possessed an undeniable charm with his commanding presence. The chill in his gaze sent shivers down my spine. I let out a shout, and my hands began to shake. I did not know that it was his room. I thought the room belonged to Clinton. “Alpha…. Brother…. Clinton..” I said with a trembling voice. After entering the room, a woman positioned herself next to Alex. She was looking so beautiful. She has a beauty that cannot be resisted by any man. She was wearing a red dress that reached her knees. Her curves were so visible in the dress. After staring at me from head to toe, she turned to Alex. “Is she Clinton's girl?” Alex raised his head to stop her from continuing to speak. His gaze moved down to the floor. I bowed my head, thinking of what to do next. Alex's presence was so commanding. I turned my head to look at him but couldn't. He was staring at the window. “I…. I… don't know this is your room.” I stammered. I gulped and tried to apologize. “I…I am sorry.” “LEAVE.” He yelled at me. My body trembled at his cold tone. I quickly stood up and rushed out of his room trying to control my tears. As soon as I ran out of that room, I stood outside, and tears were streaming down my face. I was literally shaking. Ever since I was born, nobody has spoken to me in that manner or made me feel that bad before. I was about to leave when I heard the lady with Alex say something that contributed to my pain. “She is looking so poor. Is this what Clinton wants for himself?” I quickly looked at myself, evaluating my clothes down to my shoes. “Do I really look unkept?” I asked myself. I frowned and made my way to the stairs. I knew if I stayed there for one more minute, I would be humiliated even more. I climbed down the stairs and started heading to my house since I couldn't see my brother anywhere. As I was walking down the staircase, I heard my name: “Angel,” I turned, and it was Alex's younger sister who was the same age as me. She is the last child and only girl of her parents. I do see her from time to time, and Clinton tries to make us friends. “Why are you looking this way? Are you okay?” she asked, coming closer to me. I shrugged pretending that all was well. “I'm very fine, babes.” “Hope you'll be coming tomorrow. My brother will be engaging his fiancée tomorrow, and I can't wait to see all these become a reality. My sister-in-law is very kind and loving. She's the daughter of the Alpha of the Jordan Pack. She's the perfect match for my brother. In fact he made the right choice.” I nodded slowly and wondered if she could be talking about the one who humiliated me and made me tear up. I wanted to go, but she was keeping me with her stories, and that's one of the reasons I avoid her, because she talks a lot. As she was talking about her sister-in-law, I started comparing whether I would suit the family because of where I am coming from. I come from an average family. My father was not an Alpha but a fighter and a warrior. He died when my brother and I were very young, and my mother took it upon herself to go through the pain of raising us alone. My brother had to work very hard to become the PA of Alpha Alex. I had to work so hard to gain admission to one of the prestigious universities to make my mother proud. As though Alex's sister was reading my mind, she interrupted me immediately. “Don't feel bad that I was talking about my sister-in-law that way. You know you're also my sister-in-law. My brother, Clinton, always talks about you, and I know you'll make a good wife,” she said, tapping me gently. Immediately, the anxiety and pain I was having left me. I felt good again. “Yes, your brother is good to me and I love him.” Just one of the maids crossed where we were sitting and she stopped her. “Where's Clinton?” “I heard him having a conversation with Linda before he left.” Oh!! Linda, my best friend? What were they talking about? I quickly remembered that tomorrow is my birthday and they may be planning something very spectacular, a surprise. I decided to leave immediately to go and check on Linda. I quickly turned to Alex's sister “I'll be going now. I have something to attend to right now.” “Alright. Please remember tomorrow and come with your brother.” I nodded as I left and started heading to Linda's house. I tried calling her number but she was not picking up. A lot started going through my mind as to if she's fine at all because she has never missed my call. I took a cab to Linda's house. “So you both are planning something for my birthday.” I chuckled. I didn't want to stop the surprise they have for me, but to check up on my friend as I didn't see her in class and she was not picking up my call. I thought about Clinton and remembered he lied to me, and since he lied, he was really up to something. I pushed his thoughts as I entered Linda's house. It was her housemaid that I saw as I entered the house. “Where is Linda?” “She's in her bedroom.” She answered. “I'll go in there to see her,” I responded and started walking down to her room. The housemaid could not stop me because I am Linda's best friend. I was pleased today after Alex and his fiancée wanted me to slip into depression. I was happy that Alex's sister recognized that I am her sister-in-law and also how he brother Clinton has been presenting me before the family. That was enough to hijack the words Alex's fiancée said to me. I stood in front of Linda's door for some time. I looked in, and I was surprised she was using her phone. Didn't I call her and she was not picking up? I came in and saw her covered with a blanket. “Linda, this one you're covered with, are you having a fever?” She looked shocked when she saw me as though she saw a ghost. “You…you…. What…are you doing here? She said her voice was shaking and trying to cover part of her neck and hand. I was surprised at her reaction and could not understand what she was saying until the door of the bathroom opened and I saw a young man with a white towel tied around his waist and his hair dripping with wat er. I could not believe my eyes. I felt a heavy weight in my heart. Tears started streaming down my face. “Clinton.”
