ANGEL'S POV.
Darkness wrapped around me like a thick blanket.
I woke up to see my mother sitting by my bed, anticipating my awakening. The joy in her face was something else.
“Mum, what happened? Why are you sitting close to me and why the look on your face?”
She heaved a sigh of relief.
“All these questions for me?” she let out a smile.
“Well, you collapsed while you were coming back from the palace and your brother brought you home. But I am very happy you're awake.”
“Collapsed?” I frowned.
I tried to recall all that had happened that led to my collapse, but I couldn't. My brain was completely blank.
“But mum, you said my brother brought me back, how did he do it, because I didn't see him when. I went to the palace till I left.” I asked, anxiously.
*Oh,” my mother stood up. “Your brother said he was with the Alpha Alex in his car as his PA coming back from a very important meeting when they saw someone standing on the road. The horn of the car was blown severally but the person was still there. The Alpha himself stepped out to check who he was as she was backing them. Immediately, he touched her, and she fell and slumped into his arms. Your brother, being with the Alpha, looked at the girl, and it was you. He told Alpha Alex you're his sister. That was how he brought you home.” My mother took her time and explained.
Immediately there was a flash of everything that happened earlier today on my way home.
Linda! Clinton! The Betrayal.
I managed to nod hiding my face away from my mother. I wouldn't want to break the news of what I saw that made me collapse. She still believes we are together.
My mother interrupted my thoughts.
“Now that you're awake, let me go and get something ready for dinner, and also remember that your eighteenth birthday is in a few hours.” My mother said, with so much excitement.
I pretended to be happy the way she was so that she wouldn't pick up any signals as she's very sensitive and observant.
My mother left for the kitchen, and I buried my face in my blanket and cried uncontrollably. Everything was clearer than before. If someone had ever told me that Clinton would betray me. Not just betraying me but doing that with the one I called my best friend.
I decided to keep everything to myself, including my brother. If I tell him, he'll remind me that he warned me of Clinton but I didn't pay attention to him. I wouldn't want any blame from anybody.
I looked up and started talking to the Moon Goddess.
“Moon Goddess, thank you for bringing this secret to light. Thank you because it happened a day before my eighteenth birthday and I believe there's a reason for it.”..
I was still talking to the Moon Goddess when I drifted off to sleep.
I was woken up by my mother and brother who were standing in front of me with my birthday cake, some gifts, and a bottle of wine.
I checked the time and it was 1.00am at the dot.
“Angel, you're eighteen today. Happy birthday! “ Mum and Kingsley said almost together.
I felt on top of the world and almost forgot what happened yesterday.
“Oh! I am eighteen.” I muttered.
They presented what they had for me and a popular happy birthday song.
“Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday dearest Angel, Happy birthday to you.
I quickly remembered that that day was the day I had to find my mate. And I already told my mum and brother that Clinton would be coming to make his intentions known. The whole thing broke me again. I tried to control the tears, but they were streaming uncontrollably down my cheek.
My brother came close and wrapped me in his arms.
“I know you're emotional at the moment. I also want to remind you that Mum and I love you so much, and you mean a whole lot to us.” Kingsley said.
I faked a smile pretending all was well. I was happy that I masked everything and nobody knew what was going on with me.
One of the reasons I never wanted to tell my brother is that he has always threatened to kill Clinton when we were still together. If he finds out that he betrayed, he may go ahead and kill him as he always threatened.
I lost my appetite for everything that was brought to me, but I managed to take them so that neither my mother nor brother would find out what happened between Clinton and me.
And for Linda! I lack words. I've been hearing betrayal all my life, but have never experienced it, not until yesterday.
What a world!
“Angel, remember that the engagement between the Alpha and his fiancée is this night, and you're expected to be there.” My mother said from the kitchen.
I've already zeroed my mind concerning anything that would bring me closer to the palace or whatever that would make me see either Clinton or his brother, the Alpha.
“No, mum. I don't want to be there. It's my birthday and I'm now a few adults. I need to sit and make plans for this new year, and I wouldn't need a distraction. You and Kingsley can go while I stay back.
Kingsley quickly interrupted us.
“Mum, I'm leaving for the palace. Alpha Alex said I should come and help out in the preparation.”
Mum nodded slowly.
“You can go. But once it's 9pm, come back and take your sister to the palace.”
“All noted mum. Till then.” He hopped in and drove off.
“Angel, take a look at this invitation card,” she came closely showing me the invitation card of the engagement .”
“Did you see your name there?” I checked and saw my name and reluctantly nodded.
“That is all the more reason you should be there so that you don't have issues with the royalty and so that you
don't get dragged.”
I promised myself to go but would try everything possible to avoid Clinton.
