Chapter Six:The Mate Reveal

956 Words
ANGEL’S POV The doors swung open slowly. The whole hall seemed to freeze. Even the music stopped. I couldn’t move. My heart thudded so loud I was sure everyone could hear it. And then I saw him. Alex Donald Tall. Broad. Dangerous. His green-blue eyes scanned the room like he was measuring everyone—me most of all. My wolf stirred violently inside me. Mate… mate… mate… The word pulsed in my chest. My stomach twisted. I wanted to look away. I wanted to disappear. But I couldn’t. Something inside me rooted me to the floor. Emerald was beside him. Her hand on his arm, her eyes shining with pride. She looked perfect. Too perfect. But it wasn’t her. It was him. He was the storm, the presence I couldn’t escape. The closer he got, the heavier my chest felt. My heartbeat thundered. My wolf growled. He stopped in the middle of the hall. His eyes locked with mine. The air between us thickened. Time slowed. Everything else disappeared. My lips moved before I could stop them. “Mate…” The word left me soft, barely a whisper. But it was enough. Gasps filled the hall. Whispers erupted. “Mate?” “Impossible!” Emerald’s grip on his arm tightened. Rage flashed across her face. My chest constricted. My stomach turned. I wanted to vanish. I wanted the earth to swallow me whole. But I couldn’t. My wolf whined inside me. Mate… mate… Alex’s jaw tightened. His eyes darkened. Then a low growl ripped from his chest. The sound vibrated through the marble floors. The hall trembled with it. A guard moved forward. “Everyone leave! The event is over!” he announced firmly. People started shuffling out, murmuring. No one wanted to stay when the Alpha’s growl was like that. Emerald turned sharply. “Alex! Say something! This is a mistake!” But he didn’t look at her. His eyes stayed on me. Cold. Piercing. Impossible. My legs shook. My chest ached. My wolf roared. Mate… mate… “Take her upstairs,” he said finally, his voice cutting through the tension. My breath caught. Before I could react, two guards stepped forward. Kingsley shot in front of me. “Don’t touch her.” “Step aside,” one of the guards said calmly. “I said don’t touch her!” Kingsley snapped, voice dark, warning. I reached for his arm. “It’s okay,” I whispered, even though it wasn’t. The guards nodded and gently took my arms. My heels clicked against the marble as they led me through the silent palace. Every step toward him made my chest pound faster. We stopped at a large, imposing door. One guard knocked, then opened it. The room was massive, dark, cold. Heavy curtains blocked the moonlight. The scent of him hit me first—strong, commanding, impossible to ignore. My wolf growled so loudly it echoed in my chest. He was waiting. I didn’t need to turn to feel him. Dominating, impossible, alive. Then he stepped closer. Each step made my stomach twist. My wolf screamed inside me. My chest felt like it would burst. “You,” he said, low and dangerous, “are my mate.” I swallowed hard. “I… I didn’t ask for this,” I whispered. His eyes narrowed. “Didn’t ask… or didn’t think you could handle it?” “I… I’m not your enemy,” I said softly, trying to hold back tears. “No,” he said quietly, almost to himself, “but you ruined my engagement.” “I didn’t know it was you!” I blurted. “I didn’t—” His hand shot out, grabbing my chin. My body froze. His grip was firm but not painful, forcing me to meet his gaze. My wolf growled louder. “Listen to me,” he said, voice low, deadly. “If I reject you… I lose everything. My pack. My power. My title. And you… you might not survive this.” My throat burned. “So… you’re cruel because you have no choice?” He didn’t answer. He ran a hand through his hair, jaw tight. I saw the conflict in his eyes, a flicker of something I’d never seen before. Then he released me. I stumbled back, gasping for air. My chest felt heavy, my legs weak. “You will stay here,” he said coldly. “You will follow my rules. You will not leave.” I shook my head. “I… I can’t. I have a life. I have family.” “You had a life,” he said sharply. “Before you walked into my engagement and claimed me.” My hands trembled. “I may be an Omega,” I whispered, voice shaking but defiant, “but I am not nothing.” For a moment, I saw something in his eyes. Surprise? Shock? Then it vanished, replaced by cold fury. “Leave,” he said. My chest jumped. “What?” “Out. Now. Before I lose my patience,” he said, voice low, deadly. I didn’t hesitate. I ran, heels clicking on the marble, chest burning, tears blurring my vision. I didn’t stop until I was far from his room, far from the presence that made my wolf howl and my heart race. I leaned against a wall, gasping, trying to calm my shaking body. My wolf was restless, almost desperate inside me. Mate… mate… mate… And I realized something I couldn’t deny: This was only the beginning. Because now… I belonged to him. And he belonged to me. Whether we wanted it or not. Andthe thought made my stomach twist in fear… and something else I wasn’t ready to name.
