Chapter Ten: Unwelcome Visit

1001 Words
ANGEL’S POV I didn’t know how long I stayed on the bed. Lying there, Eyes open, Thinking too much. The room was quiet, but my mind wasn’t. Everything kept replaying. The hall, the bond, Her look. I turned slightly, staring at the ceiling. Sleep wasn’t coming, not anytime soon. My chest still felt tight. My wolf restless. Mate… I shut my eyes briefly. “Please…” I whispered. I didn’t even know what I was asking for. Silence answered me, then Movement. I opened my eyes. He was already moving. Walking toward the door. My brows pulled slightly. “Where are you going?” I asked. He didn’t stop and said “Work.” That was all, I sat up slowly. “At this time?” No answer, Of course. He opened the door. Then paused for a second, Without turning. “Stay here.” He said The words felt like an order. Not advice. Not concern. Just… control. My fingers tightened slightly on the bed. “I wasn’t planning to leave,” I said quietly. He didn’t respond. The door opened. Then closed. And just like that I was alone. The silence felt different now. Heavier, Unfamiliar. I looked around the room slowly. Everything still felt like his. Nothing felt like mine. I wrapped my arms around myself and stood up. My feet hit the floor and it was cold I walked slowly toward the window. Pulled the curtain slightly. The palace was quiet, too quiet. Almost like it was holding its breath. I didn’t like it. That feeling came back. That same one from before. Low, Unsettling. Like something was about to happen. I stepped back from the window. Trying to ignore it, trying to calm down. But my chest wouldn’t settle. I paced a little. Back and forth. Not too much. Just enough to stop my thoughts from closing in. Then I heard a knock. Soft, But clear. I froze. My body went still instantly. My eyes moved to the door. My heart started beating faster. Who would come here? My fingers curled slightly. Another knock. This time… slower. More certain. I swallowed. “Who is it?” I asked. No answer, Just silence. That made it worse. I took a slow step forward. Then another, careful. My hand reached the handle. I hesitated. Something in me said don’t open it. But I did. Slowly, The door opened. And there she was. Emerald. My chest tightened immediately. She looked… perfect. Just like before. Nothing out of place, Nothing broken. If anything, she looked calmer. Too calm. For a second, neither of us spoke, She didn’t smile. Didn’t frown. Just looked at me. The same way she did downstairs. Quiet, Sharp, Measuring. I stepped back slightly without thinking. “Can I help you?” I asked. My voice came out softer than I wanted. She didn’t answer immediately. Her eyes moved past me. Into the room. Taking everything in, Then back to me. “So this is where you are now,” she said. Her voice was calm, Smooth. Like nothing happened. My fingers tightened slightly at my side. “I didn’t choose this,” I replied. Her lips curved slightly. Not a smile. Not really. “I know.” The way she said it didn’t feel kind. It felt… knowing. Like she understood more than she was saying. She took a step forward. I didn’t move. I didn’t know if I should. She stopped just a little too close. Close enough for me to feel it. That tension, that pressure. “I’ve heard about you,” she said. I frowned slightly. “Really?” She nodded once. “Quiet, Obedient, Easy to overlook.” Each word landed slowly. Carefully, Not loud, But sharp. I swallowed. “I guess that makes tonight surprising,” I said. Her eyes stayed on mine. Unblinking. “Yes,” she said softly. “Very.” Silence stretched between us. Heavy. I didn’t look away this time. Even though I wanted to, I wouldn’t. Not now, not in front of her. She tilted her head slightly. Studying me. “You don’t look like much,” she said. The words were simple. But they hit. I felt it. Still, I kept my face steady. “I didn’t know I was competing,” I replied. Her lips curved again. That same almost smile. “You are,” she said. My chest tightened. Of course I was, I just didn’t want to admit it. She took a small step back this time. Finally giving space. But it didn’t make it easier. “Let me make something clear,” she continued. My body tensed slightly. “He didn’t choose you.” The words were calm. But they carried weight. I knew that. I felt that. I saw it in his eyes. Still… hearing it like this It stung. “I know,” I said quietly. Her gaze flickered for a second. Like she didn’t expect that answer. “He chose me,” she added. My fingers curled. “That doesn’t seem to matter anymore,” I replied. That was the truth. Whether we liked it or not. Something changed. Her eyes hardened slightly. “There are things you don’t understand,” she said. “Then explain,” I answered. A pause. Then she shook her head lightly. “No,” she said. “You’ll learn.” That didn’t sound like a warning. It sounded like a promise. And I didn’t like that. Not at all. She turned slightly toward the door. Then stopped. Without looking back, she spoke again. “Enjoy it while it lasts.” My chest tightened. Because I knew exactly what she meant. Then she walked out. Just like that, No shouting, No scene, Just silence. The door closed behind her. And I stood there still. Breathing slowly. Trying to process everything. But one thing was clear. Very clear. This wasn’t over. It was just starting. And somehow I was already in the middle of it.
