The scent of coffee slowly permeates the room and there is suddenly a hand on my shoulder.
"Good morning."
I look up into the smiling face of the woman who refuses to leave until Lola's discharged.
She offers me a styrofoam cup full of steaming hot coffee, filling me with gratitude.
"Thank you." I try to force a smile but fail. An awkward silence falls between us as she pulls up another chair beside me. Janice pulls the rolling beside table between us. That's when I notice the styrofoam boxes on the table.
"I figured you'd be hungry." She pushes a box towards me. I can only stare at it. I'm not hungry but it would be rude to not try to eat it. She sets some packets of sugar and creamer down by the boxes before turning to me with worried eyes.
