Why would he want me?

It was just a bad dream

Trigger Warning: This next chapter contains verbal and physical abuse

I sit in my room reading to myself, trying to block out my reality when I hear a loud crash.

“F*ck! Stupid piece of S**t!”

I jump up quickly but don’t dare to open my door, in fear that what’s on the other side will remember that I am here. I try to remain as silent as possible when suddenly my door flies open and my father stumbles into my room. He grabs me roughly and pulls me into the hallway and pushes me forward. He is so rough that I stumble and fall into the living room and nearly slice my hand open on glass that is everywhere.

“Clean this mess up, now!” He screams.

“Dad, its’ so late and I have school tomorrow.” I say quietly while I look at the broken glass that covers the entire living room floor. He must have broken several things to make a mess like this.

“Do you think I give a s**t; no one cares if you have school! Clean it up now if you know what is good for you!” He takes a giant swig of his liquor.

He stomps down the hall and leaves me in the living room alone with the mess, and I don’t dare say another word. I quietly grab a broom trying to be careful to not step on any of the glass and clean up everything that I could see. I do my best to check all around the area because I know that If I leave even one piece of glass on the floor then I am done for.

While I am putting the broom away, I hear him coming back down the hall cursing to himself. I try to step out of his way, not quickly enough when all of a sudden;

“Get out of my way you fat b**ch”.

*Smack*

My face is burning, and I am seeing black spots all over. The tears start to flow freely as I walk quickly to my room holding my face and praying, I can survive this hell.

“Ahh”, I wake with a start, tears running down my face while I am panicking as I take in my surroundings. Realizing I am safe in my own apartment and not back in that hell hole I called a home, I repeat over and over;

“it was just a bad dream.”
