Chapter Two.
Two years later.
Elyse sat in the dimly lit corner of the pub room, her eyes fixed on the figure before her. It was not her nature to be found in places like this but ever since she left her pack, she had to be involved in shady business to survive.
“It’s an honor to be invited by a very powerful goddess.”Elyse did not miss the wily smile that formed on the goddess’ lips. Lilith, the goddess of the witches, demigoddess of chaos. Elyse would never forget her story. Born of Nix and Gai, the weakest of the big five. One when sought power and revenge.
“We wouldn’t be having this discussion if I wasn’t tied of my plaything.” Elyse knew that by ‘plaything’ Lilith meant host. As a goddess and a creature of the Duat, she couldn’t live on earth without inhabiting the body of a creature of earth.
“What is it about her that tires you?” Elyse felt sorry for whoever her host was, most hosts do not survive if their god decided to leave them and from her words, Elyse could deduce that Lilith needed a new host.
“This body is weak for me, I want someone strong. A creature that can channel my power ever so perfectly.” Elyse looked up at her. She didn’t particularly like the job that she did but it was the only job that paid her well, and there was nothing wrong in finding hosts for gods as long as they consented to it.
“And who would that be?” Lilith’s lips curled again before she replied.
“I have no reason to look further because my potential host is sitting right in front of me.” Elyse’s eyes widened in fear. She would never be a host to any god. The position came with power but with Lilith, it would seem as if nemesis had caught up with the host. Lilith was never one to toy with, she would take full control of her host’s body and use it as she wished.
“You’re wrong if you think I would ever consent to this.” She spat, her tongue filled with venom. Lilith only chuckled at her outburst.
“That’s the problem with you. I don’t need your consent to take over. I would take your body whenever I deem it fit.” Her words only made Elyse to become enraged.
“Give me the job and I would find you a host.” Elyse suggested as she steadied her voice.
“No sweetie. You’re the perfect host, I can thrive within you. Your bitterness and anger is what makes me stronger. Give me control and I will make Ian yours.” Though she had not recovered from the fact that Ian was not meant to be hers, it didn’t mean she would actually try to destroy their marriage.
“I don’t need your help, Lilith. Find someone else.” With that she walked out on Lilith and out of the club. Elyse would never give a god possession of her body but with Lilith, she feared what the outcome of this discussion might be. Would Lilith force herself on her? It was only a matter of time and Lilith was one who always had what she wanted.
Elyse knew that her best bet was to talk to her sister. Kelly has the ability to call on the gods, she might be able to escape if she called on Selene for help. She walked into the inn where she lived and settled her bag on the chair. It was a small place but it was big enough for her. She switched the lights on and sat on the bed, her eyes glazed over as she sent a mind link to her sister.
~**~
“How are you holding up, dear?”
Kelly managed a half smile for her mum. She was almost two years into her title of Queen Luna and she had fallen in love with it. The only thing that bothered her was her sister’s welfare. They still talked on occasion through their mind link but it could not compare to seeing her sister physically.
“I’m fine mum. It’s just I’m worried about Elyse.” Her mother’s eyes narrowed with concern.
“What about Elyse?”
Eleanor’s face was etched with concern. What kind of mother would not miss a daughter she had not seen in two years?
“I don’t know mum but she wanted me to talk to the moon goddess. It’s about her meeting with Lilith.”
Eleanor’s eyes narrowed even further but this time it was with fear. Who would not be afraid at the mention of Lilith? Every supernatural being knew that that goddess was an evil omen.
“Something big is about to hit us mum. I think Lilith wants Elyse to host her.”
“What!!!” Eleanor shrieked.
Kelly immediately palmed her ears to block out the high pitched noise.
“Did you talk to Selene?, what did she say?”
Kelly was not sure if she should go further with this didn’t but she couldn’t leave her mother’s question unanswered. The problem was she did try to talk to the moon goddess but Selene did not give her the answer she was expecting. It was as if the goddess had begun to talk in parables. She could remember her words like the back of her hand.
You would have to watch this event unfold dear. Telling you might disrupt the future. Be informed that you would be separated from Ian soon but after this separation, go to the human realm and seek Sebastian. The vampire would help you.
Selene’s words got her even more confused than she was. She couldn’t bear being separated from Ian, she couldn’t bear to allow her sister to be possessed by a grief stricken goddess. What on earth was she supposed to do?
“I don’t know mum.” She muttered. “Selene did not reply.” She said. She knew she had better give this response to her mum as the original would not go well with Eleanor.
Kelly rolled up her sleeves as she helped the orphaned pups. The worry was evident on her face. She knew it was only a matter of time, but she hoped they would not be separated for too long.
