Chapter Four.
The world suddenly fell silent as Kelly took a step backwards. She opened her mouth to speak but no words came out. Instead she clamped her eyes shut, remembering the goddess’ warning. This was it, the time she would be separated from Ian. A lone tear fell down her cheeks as soon as she opened her eyes, the world around her began to swirl, a feeling of dizziness washed over her.
She was being strong, no one needed to tell her that. She had seen countless females being rejected by their mates and she had seen their reactions but never for once had she thought that she would experience it herself.
She let out a sigh, that was her coping mechanism. If she didn’t do that, she knew not how she would react. She tightened her fist and looked up at Ian.
“Do you really believe that I could do that? That I could forge a bond between us?” She asked. She was trying really hard to stop the tears from flowing.
“At this point Kelly, I don’t know what to believe. You’re not like you used to be.” Ian said.
Kelly closed her eyes, “You’re judging from the words of a stranger, Ian.” She pointed out.
“She’s not a stranger Kelly, she’s your sister and at the same time, she’s potentially my luna.” He yelled angrily
“Your Luna?” Kelly asked a bit broken. Did he actually mean it?
“What? Do you think you would still hold that title.” He asked.
Kelly impulsively shook her head in response. Of course, someone else now owned that title.
She couldn’t even determine her fair anymore, what would become of her? ‘A once upon a time Luna?’
“I think it’s best you stay out of our lives also.” Ian finally added.
“You want me out of the pack house?” She could tell that was what he meant but then Ian snorted, the gesture letting her know there was more to this.
“Worse.” He stated. “I want you out of this pack. You can leave for any where you want. You don’t have to worry, your housing and expenses would be covered by me. I just want you out.”
“I don’t want anything from you.” She retorted. If she was going to leave this place, she could as well leave with nothing.
Ian took a step forward intimidating her with his height.
“Do you realize what you’re saying. You have nothing. You wouldn’t even be able to start a life out of here without my help.” He told her. “You had better reconsider.”
“Like I said I want nothing from you.” She said defiantly. Ian scoffed placing his hands on his hips.
“I have no idea what you’re trying to prove but then now I see that I owe you nothing. If you decide to leave this pack only with the clothes on your back. I don’t really care.”
“And what if I refuse?”
“Refuse to do what?” He asked irritatedly.
“What if I refuse to leave this pack? I grew up here and no one can turn me out.” She rebelled.
“Then I would have the guards throw you out and trust me, you wouldn’t like it one bit.” He spat.
Saying that, Ian picked up his jacket from where he had hung it on the chair and walked out of the lounge, leaving Elyse and Kelly behind.
“Hey sis.” Elyse called out. Kelly has looked over to her side right before she decided she shouldn’t have.
“What do you want?”
“Oh, just wanted to wish you luck.” She drawled brushing past Kelly as she left the room.
Now, she was all alone. Kelly sat in one of the sofas in the building as she began fiddling her fingers.
The deed had been done, now it was up to her to fix it. Not that she had been the one who destroyed it. Her mind went back to the discussion she had had with her sister that night. No doubt, Elyse was possessed, her sister would never do such a thing to her. She couldn’t take it anymore, Ian was her world. The tears began to flow down her cheek.
The agony, the pain, she let them all out in this moment. She knew what she had to do but she was so afraid of doing it. How on earth was she supposed to find a vampire except she went to the vampire city which in itself was a suicide mission.
She nervously rubbed her palms together and stood up, taking the door that led out of the lounge, she only had her mind on doing one thing and that was seeing herself out of this place, only then could she succeed in doing what she had to do.
Without wasting anymore time, she got up and walked out of the lounge. She ignored the elevator and took the stairs instead. Taking it step by step as she sidled out of the reception.
The wind caressed her skin for a brief while, Kelly almost missed the car that flashed its lights at her but even when she saw it, she decided to ignore it.
Probably one of her friends, but she didn’t have the courage to speak with anyone right now. She just wanted to find some solitary place and cry her eyes out.
She continued ignoring the flashing lights and was only forced to stop in her tracks when the car drove up in front of her.
“Excuse me?” She was about to say but she stopped when she realized that she recognized the car. Ian’s car.
The door opened and Gabriel slipped out of it, Kelly chided herself for thinking it had been Ian in that car.
“What do you want?” She asked him. Gabriel stares at her with a bit of shock in his eyes. She was shocked as well, she didn’t expect that she would sound outrightly rude but at the same time, she couldn’t help the situation as well.
“Alpha a-sked me to give you a ride back.” He stammered.
Kelly blinked, a flicker of hope settling in her chest.
“Back where?”
“He said back to where ever you want to go.” Hearing this, her shoulders slumped in devastation.
“It’s alright, tell your Alpha I wouldn’t be needing his help.”
“But it was an order from him. I have to take you.” He argued.
“You’re not obliged to take me Gabe, I already told you I don’t need it. Go spend the night with your mate.” She spat at him and began walking away. She couldn’t believe it, Ian was offering her a ride even after she had told she didn’t need any help.
“Please, wait. Hold up.” Gabriel called out. Kelly reluctantly stopped, half-heartedly eager to know what his next antic was.
She watched him open the car door as he brought out a black colored duffel bag handing it over to her.
“What’s this for?” She asked looking at the bag with skepticism.
“Alp- Your mum asked me to give it to you. She said you would need it.”
“My mum?”
“Yes. She already knows what happened.”
Kelly chuckled softly unconvinced by his words.
“I bet she didn’t, if she did. She would be out here with you to bid me a proper farewell.” Kelly pointed out even though she had not the first idea what a ‘proper farewell’ would be in this case.
“Who sent this?”
“Al -Alpha.” He stuttered. “But it’s basically all your things inside it. He ain’t adding to it himself, I swear by the moon goddess.”
“What if I don’t want it?”
“But you need it, Luna.” Gabe pleaded. Kelly felt a bit vulnerable, he was using her title even though he knew she didn’t own it anymore. Part of her wanted to believe it was genuine while another dark part thought of the possibility that he was mocking her.
“Let me have it.” She swallowed.
“I can carry it for you.”
“Don’t bother. I think it best we part ways right now. Goodbye.” She said taking the bag from him, then she departed.
She knew she needed transport especially since it was the middle of the night and rogues were sure to wander at this time of the day but her pride wouldn’t let her take one from Ian and she wouldn’t even call it pride. That was what the most undignified person would have done but at the same time, she could have sworn she would have taken it if she didn’t have an alternative.
She arrived at Lucy’s house not quite long after, the wind whispering lyrics in her ears as she knocked on the door.
“Who is it?” She could heat Lucy’s voice, all drowsy with sleep.
“It’s Kelly.” The door flew open as soon as she said that.
“Why are you out at this time of the day?”
“It’s a long story but I would like to borrow your car.”
“Oookay.” Lucy drawled. “So what happened to the fleet of cars in the pack house’s garage?” She questioned suspiciously.
“I don’t want to use them.” She said truthfully. It might as well be the only truth she was going to tell this night. She wasn’t borrowing Lucy’s car, she was taking it away forever.
“Alright, but you look like you’ve been crying.” Lucy noticed.
“I actually just woke up.” She lied.
“But your eyes, tears.”
“It’s not easy walking around in the dark.” Kelly have a vague reply, Lucy only stared at her in confusion.
“Something must have gotten into it.” She finally explained.
“Okay. If you say so. Let me go get the car keys.” Lucy said as she went back into the house, returning a tick later with the keys in her hand.
She placed it in Kelly’s hand and said, “I would see you tomorrow.”
“Of course. Thanks by the way.”
“It’s nothing.” Lucy replied while Kelly skidded over to where Lucy’s car was parked.
She opened the door and slipped inside it.
“If I don’t see you here tomorrow, I’m coming over to the pack house.” Lucy called out behind her. Kelly only smiled bitterly. She settled inside the car, starting it’s engine as she stared far into the horizon.
Now was the time for her to know what lay beyond all of this.
