I watched as Lucien hid me behind his back, his wolf materializing on his shoulder like a living shadow. Its luminous silver eyes glared directly at Kade's soul.
The air grew heavier, thicker, as if the atmosphere itself recognized the danger in the room. The faint hum of conversation from the nearby banquet hall faded into silence in my mind, replaced by the slow, deliberate sound of Lucien's breathing.
