Gerald and Mako stood in the small surveillance room going through every street camera they could pull. Frame after frame showed nothing useful. The footage near Benson’s building had been wiped clean. No cars. No faces. No timestamps that led anywhere. It was a professional job.
Mako leaned back in the chair and rubbed his face. “Someone knew we were coming. This was not luck. Someone must have warned him.”
Gerald stared at the black screen. “The list of people who even knew the name Benson is short.”
“Very short,” Mako agreed.
Gerald pushed away from the table. “We are done here.”
They drove back to the warehouse in silence. The men already had Elliot secured in the same chair as before. His bandaged hands rested on his lap. His face was pale and tight with pain. When he saw Gerald walk in, he straightened as much as the ropes allowed.
“You found him?” Elliot asked quickly. “Benson?”
Gerald stopped in front of him. “Empty apartment. Cleaned out. No trace. Your information led to nothing.”
Elliot’s eyes widened. “That is not possible. I told you the truth. I swear on my life.”
“Your life does not carry much weight right now,” Gerald said.
Elliot leaned forward, voice turning desperate. “Then let me make it right. I can give you a fair deal on trade routes. I will work under you. My men, my contacts, everything. Just let me live. I can be useful.”
Gerald looked at him the way a man looks at something already finished. “You are a small fly in this world. You have nothing I need. Your little estate, your men, your name… none of it matters to me.”
Elliot swallowed hard. “Please…Gerald..”
“In death you are more useful,” Gerald continued. “I can take everything you own. And your death will send a clear message to stay the f**k away from what is mine. Especially the Lucianos.”
Elliot started shaking his head. “Do not do this. We can still—”
Gerald cut him off. “My men are already on the way to your estate. Anyone they find there dies. Right now you have one chance to keep breathing. Sign these papers. Transfer every asset you own into my name. That is the only way you walk out of this room alive. I will strip you of everything and you will leave the mafia world for good.”
Mako stepped forward and placed a thick file on the small table beside Elliot. A pen rested on top of it.
Elliot stared at the papers, then at Gerald. Anger flashed across his face. “f**k you. I will not sign. You think you can just take everything?”
Gerald’s voice stayed calm. “If you refuse, my men will cut off your toes one by one. Then they will gouge out your f*****g eyes. We will give you enough painkillers and medication so you stay alive through all of it. You will live, but you will wish you did not.”
The color drained from Elliot’s face. His breathing turned shallow. For several long seconds the only sound in the room was the low hum of the lights. Then his shoulders collapsed.
“I will sign,” he whispered.
They untied one of his ruined hands enough for him to grip the pen. Elliot signed every page with shaking fingers. When he finished, Mako collected the file and stepped back.
Elliot looked up, hope cracking through the fear. “I signed. Please. Let me go now. I will disappear. You will never see me again.”
Gerald watched him for a moment. Then a cold, wicked laugh left his throat.
“You are so..fucking stupid,” he said. “You really thought I would let you walk out of here? You would run straight to an enemy, lick their boots, and come back for me later. I do not leave loose ends.”
Elliot’s face twisted as the truth settled in. This was why people feared Gerald Maldovo. There was no pity in him. No second chances once the decision was made.
“f**k you,” Elliot spat, voice raw.
Gerald raised his gun.
He shot Elliot through both hands first. Elliot screamed. The next bullets tore into his legs. Another slammed into his stomach. Elliot’s screams turned wet and broken. Gerald stepped closer, looked him in the eye, and put the final bullet through his head.
The body slumped against the ropes. Gerald stared at it for a second, then spat on the floor near the chair.
“f*****g pig.” He turned to Mako. “Clean this up. Cut the body if you need to. Send the pieces to the Lucianos as a souvenir. Send a clear note alongside.”
Mako already had a pen in his hand. He wrote on a thick piece of paper: You come for my girl, you’re next.
“They will get the message,” Mako said. Gerald gave a short nod. “Good.”
Across the city, in the quiet hospital room, Lily sat propped up against the pillows. Her body still ached with every small movement. She reached for her phone on the side table and unlocked it.
The first thing she saw was Miguela’s confession video. It had already spread through private groups and open channels. Comments flooded underneath.
Lying b***h. She got what she deserved. Trash like her should stay dead.
Lily scrolled further and stopped. A new video had been posted only a short time ago. The camera showed the back alley of the old club. Miguela’s body lay on the concrete, clearly lifeless, blood around her head.
Lily’s fingers tightened around the phone. She knew who had done it. There was no question. Gerald had killed her.
A sharp spark of fear moved through her chest. She stared at the screen until the image blurred. The man who had carried her out of that room, the man who had sat beside her hospital bed, was the same man who had done this without hesitation.
She placed the phone face down on the blanket and looked at the closed door. Outside she could hear the low voices of Gerald’s men standing guard. For the first time since she signed the contract, the three-year timeline felt like a countdown she might not survive.
She had to prepare. When the contract ends, she would need to run. Not just leave. Run for her life. Lily leaned her head back against the pillow and closed her eyes. The bruises on her body would heal. The fear settling deeper in her chest would not fade as easily.
