Lily sat up in the hospital bed with the phone pressed tightly to her ear. The bruises along her ribs still hurt when she breathed too deeply, and the side of her face felt tight from the swelling. She listened to the ringing until a familiar voice finally answered. “St. Mary’s Orphanage.” “Sister Agnes? It is Lily Robinson.” There was a short pause on the other end. “Lily. It has been years.
