Gerald sat behind his desk when the door opened and Cleo walked in. He had sent for her earlier after seeing the videos. She wore a fitted dress and a small, satisfied smile, as if she already knew how the conversation would go.
“You asked for me,Gerald,” she said, taking a seat without waiting for permission.
Gerald stared at her for a long moment. “The videos. You released them.”
Cleo’s smile faded. She sat up straighter. “I did not. I would never do something like that to you.”
“Do not lie to me, Cleo.”
“I am not lying.” Her voice rose a little. “Someone is trying to sabotage me. I am sure it is Elliot. He has been looking for ways to cause problems since the party. He wants to make you look weak and make me look guilty at the same time. I would never destroy your image, Gerald. You know that.”
Gerald’s fingers tapped once on the desk. The anger sat heavy in his chest, but he kept his voice controlled.
“You have been running your mouth about her since the party. Calling her a toy. Is that not ruining my name? Now these videos appear and you expect me to believe it is a coincidence?”
“Yes,” Cleo said quickly. “Because it is. I was angry about you taking her instead of me, yes. I said things I should not have said. I apologize. But I did not send those videos. I swear it. Someone is using this to turn you against me.”
Gerald studied her face. He did not believe her, but he also did not have the final proof in his hands yet. He leaned back in his chair.
“Get out.”
Cleo hesitated. “Gerald, you know….”
“I said get out.” He said harshly, cutting her off. She stood up, smoothed her dress, and left without another word. The door closed behind her with a soft click.
A few minutes later Mako entered. He looked more serious than usual.
“We tracked the IP,” he said. “The original upload did not come from any of Cleo’s known devices. It came from a location downtown. The old club where Lily had worked.”
Gerald stood immediately. “f**k. Let’s go.”
Across the city, Lily sat on the edge of her bed staring at her phone. She had seen both videos. The club footage was hers. She remembered that night clearly. The second video was different. The body looked similar, but the face was never clear. She knew why.
She had been the one holding the camera.
Years ago, her friend Miguela had asked her to record it. Miguela wanted to see how she looked while being f****d by two men. Lily had done it as a favor and then told her to delete everything. She had refused every time Miguela offered to film her in return. She never wanted that kind of evidence of herself. Even the club dancing videos were supposed to have been deleted long ago.
Lily stood up, dressed quickly in jeans and a plain top, and left the penthouse. She knew exactly where to go.
The old club still looked the same from the outside. She walked past the main floor and straight toward the back rooms she remembered. The hallway smelled of old smoke and cheap perfume. She pushed open the office door without knocking.
Their old manager sat behind a desk. Miguela was on the couch, legs crossed, scrolling on her phone. Both of them looked up.
“Well,” Miguela said with a slow smile. “Look who finally remembered where she came from.”
Lily closed the door. “You released those videos. How could you do that to me?”
Miguela laughed. “You think you are special now because you are f*****g a mafia don? You forgot your friends the moment you got a taste of better dick.”
“That video was never supposed to exist anymore,” Lily said. “I told you to delete it.”
“And I told you people like us do not get to climb that high.” Miguela stood up. “You left. You acted brand new. Now the whole circle has seen what you really are.”
Before Lily could answer, the door behind her opened. Several men stepped inside. Elliot Rivera walked in last, a thin smile on his face.
Lily’s stomach dropped. She understood too late. She had been played.
“Miguela,” she said quietly.
Miguela only shrugged. “You were soo f*****g predictable, Lily. I knew you would come.”
Elliot nodded at his men. “Take her.”
Lily turned to run, but the men were already on her. They grabbed her arms and dragged her down the short hallway into a back room. The door locked behind them. Only Elliot remained inside with her.
She backed up until her shoulders hit the wall. “Stay away from me.”
Elliot removed his jacket slowly and laid it over a chair. “You slapped me in front of people. You humiliated me and made me look like a fool. Did you think I would forget?”
“Gerald will—”
“Gerald is not here.” He said with a wicked grin playing on his lips. “And Gerald won’t be seeing much of you, after today.”
He moved fast. The first slap snapped her head to the side. The pain flared hot across her cheek. Lily swung at him, but he caught her wrist and shoved her hard against the wall. His fist slammed into her stomach once, then again. Air left her lungs in a broken sound. Her knees buckled.
She tried to fight. She scratched, kicked, and swung her elbows. Elliot hit her again, this time across the face hard enough to make her vision blur. She tasted blood. Another punch landed on her side. She cried out and slid down the wall.
“You should have stayed in your place, you little w***e” he said, breathing hard. He grabbed her hair and forced her to look at him. “You walk around on his arm like you matter. Oh no, you don’t, at least not after I am done with you, I will break you until there’s nothing left for any other man to pick up .”
Lily spat blood at his shoes. He slapped her again, harder. Her ears rang. Her body felt heavy and slow. She tried to push herself up, but her arms shook too much. Tears mixed with the blood on her face as she stayed on the floor, breathing in short, pained gasps.
“Your cry sounds so melodious, and those tears beautiful, I can’t wait to hear you scream my name when I f**k your dirty w***e p***y, I’m going to cleanse you of that godforsaken Gerald.”
Elliot stood over her, ready to call his men in to strip her when noise exploded outside the door. Shouting. Heavy footsteps. Something heavy hit the wood. The door burst open with a loud crack.
Gerald stood in the doorway, gun in hand, eyes locked on the scene in front of him. Behind him, Mako and two other men filled the hallway.
Lily lifted her head just enough to see him. Relief hit her harder than any of the punches. Her vision darkened at the edges.
She breathed out once, knowing she was safe, and then everything went black.
