"Surprise!" William said as he showed me into the room for my definitely-not-a-surprise one-hundred-and-twenty-sixth birthday party.
"It's not a surprise," Derek pointed out.
William shrugged. "She hates surprises. And I'd rather not have her mad at me. But if you want to try it..."
Derek held up his hands. "I definitely don't want to try it."
I chuckled, and looked around the four faces sat at the kitchen table. I couldn't believe what a year it had been. First finding out blood slavery was still a thing, then having a fake blood slave turn up, finally getting engaged to William, reconnecting with Watt, and turning Mika, taking down an archenemy, and introducing stricter laws on blood slavery.
