Seventeen A shadow appeared behind Mika, metal flickered, and a dagger was raised in the air. “Watch out!” I charged past William, pushed Mika to the side, and jumped into the path of the attack. The blade slashed into my arm and the attacker darted back as I bore my teeth. He probably thought he’d just have to deal with a meek human, but I was proving him wrong. “Get back!” I shouted, hoping to intimidate and scare off whoever had dared to intrude in my home.
