Rein’s POV
“You seemed a little… tense,” I said slowly, my eyes narrowing as I watched Hunter closely. “Just now, when I asked about your eyes. You relaxed the moment I changed the subject.”
Hunter’s brow quirked. “You noticed that?”
I nodded. “Yep. But don’t worry,” I added with a playful grin, trying to lighten the weird knot in my chest. “I’m totally cool with dating an alien. You don’t have to explain.”
He chuckled, deep and low. “Alien? That’s your theory?”
“Well, what else explains the whole mysterious, brooding, ‘my eyes change colors’ thing?” I teased, tilting my head. “It’s either that or you’re secretly Superman.”
His smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. “I’m human, Rein. Not an alien. Nothing for you to worry about.”
