Andy went to handle the paperwork and told Stanley to watch Winnie.
Stanley, surprisingly, handed her a glass of water.
Winnie slapped it away with a sharp move and gave him an angry glare.
The cup almost slipped from Stanley's hand. He caught it fast and tightened his grip. He stared at her unfamiliar look. Something stuck in his throat. He needed a moment before he could speak.
"What now? A gold digger like you actually learned to have a spine?"
Winnie clenched her fists. "You are the gold digger! I got a proper scholarship through the proper channels."
Stanley spun the cup in his hand. A teasing look came back to his face. "Oh really? A gold digger who got the job by applying for it?"
Winnie felt her blood boil. Their words made no sense. It felt like they were talking at her, not to her. She felt completely drained.
She did not understand why Stanley kept calling her a gold digger. She did not understand why both brothers enjoyed breaking her down.
"Stanley, this is the last time I will say it. I am not a gold digger. I never tried to climb into anyone's bed. You are the ones with dirty thoughts. You see dirt everywhere because you are already dirty inside."
Stanley lowered his eyes. The cup in his hand reminded him of the phone he had seen before.
There had been several large transfers from an overseas account.
It did not look like a normal scholarship.
He had even felt a moment of guilt back then. He thought the game had gone too far and wanted to confess, to slowly fix things with Winnie.
It felt ridiculous now. He had been the biggest fool.
That thought made his eyes turn colder.
He tightened his grip on the cup and walked step by step toward her.
Winnie felt the danger at once. She tried to move back, but he grabbed her chin hard.
"This water is from a clean source too. Drink it."
He forced her mouth open and poured it in.
The hot water burned her tongue until it went numb. Tears filled her eyes from the pain.
"Mm... let go of me!" she choked.
In the struggle, water spilled onto her chest. It soaked her clothes and stuck to her skin.
Stanley froze for a second when he saw it. Winnie used that moment to shove him away.
"B*stard!"
She hit her chest and coughed hard, trying to ease the burning pain.
Even then, she lifted her eyes and glared at him.
That look of pure hate cut into Stanley like a blade. His chest tightened.
He clicked his tongue and stepped closer again. He grabbed her neck with one hand.
"Winnie, where did you go after graduation night?"
Winnie frowned in pain. Then, she let out a cold laugh.
He still dared to ask.
If she had not overheard their conversation, she could not imagine what nightmare would have come from that graduation night video.
She could not stop them, so she left first. She ran overseas in shame.
She only came back after Leo passed away.
Winnie struggled to breathe. Her body shook. "Where I go is none of your business."
Stanley leaned closer. "Even if you do not tell me, I can find out."
"You think you can run from us?"
A cold chill ran through Winnie. Before she could kick him away, a sharp voice came from the door.
"What are you doing?"
Stanley let go like nothing happened. "Andy, done with the papers?"
Andy stood there with dark cold eyes. He stared at them.
"I told you to watch her."
Stanley answered lightly. "I am watching her."
"Let's go. Take her to the examination room."
Stanley carried Winnie again. She was taken inside and forced into a surgical gown. Her wet clothes were removed. A harsh white light hit her eyes and blurred everything into glowing rings.
A sedative was prepared.
Winnie struggled weakly right before the injection. "I do not want this..."
Her painful face made both of their hearts skip.
Stanley frowned and grabbed her hand.
Andy stepped in fast. "What are you doing?"
Stanley looked uneasy. "Andy, she is crying."
"She always acts like a victim," Andy said flatly. His eyes stayed on Winnie. "Come back."
"But..."
Andy stood with one hand in his pocket. His voice stayed cold and steady. "You know what she has done. Come back."
The warmth holding her hand disappeared.
The medicine spread through her body. Her strength drained away fast.
If she could, she would have stood up and asked Andy what she had ever done to deserve this.
The sedative locked her thoughts away.
Only one tear slipped from the corner of her eye and rolled down slowly.
