Chapter 7It was no problem at all for me to stay up all night to prepare for the third shift life. I adjusted quickly, working my first week with my co-worker Paul, and from then on I was alone. I’d rather deal with the methed-up customers at three A.M. than my two-faced co-workers.
Luke started staying with me every other weekend from Friday night until Sunday at noon. I loved it.
“Don’t swing your shifts,” Dr. Lee had warned. But Sunday through Tuesday I stayed up all night, then on my days off snapped back into being a day person. What was I supposed to do, sleep all day while Luke was there? I didn’t have a car, but I spoiled him, Nadia, and Liv in the best way I knew how.
