Chapter 2: Just my luck

936 Words
I get out of the car and take a deep breath. “You’ve got this Grace! I wish you the best.” Jen is one of the few people who knows I am a wolf. Aunt Mary and Damon don’t know. Damon is adopted and my Aunt Mary isn’t a wolf, unless she hasn’t told me or Damon. I can understand that. How can you ask your niece and nephew if they are wolves? It’s not like it comes up in conversation. “Thanks Jen.” She takes my hand and leads me towards the school. We both look at each other and take a deep breath. She acts like it’s her who has to find a mate. That’s what I love about her. My problems become our problems. I walk in with her to see an empty hallway. Crap! Class has started! We look at each other with shocked faces. We start running to our classes. She is in the opposite direction so she starts running backwards and yells, “Tell me at lunch if there is any news!” “I will!” I ran to the classroom door and accidentally ran into the door. OUCH! I start rubbing my head when suddenly the door opens. I am face to face with my teacher. “Hello Miss Jacobson.” I reply with my head down, “Hello Mr. Wilson.” He steps aside and I walk to my seat in the back of the classroom with all eyes on me. “Now. Where were we?” The entire 90 minute class was a lecture about the noble gases and halogens. It was the most boring lecture I think I have ever had to suffer through. RING! RING! Finally! The bell couldn’t have come sooner? “Miss Jacobson please stay.” Everyone finished filing out of the door and in the hallway. I saw Jen waiting for me. I shrugged. “Is there someone more important in the hallway Miss Jacobson?” “Of course not Mr. Wilson.” “Well that’s good. I just wanted to ask about your tardiness this morning and the disruption.” “I really want to apologize. I know you aren’t one for excuses but I woke up late this morning, and rushed to get here with Jennifer but we had to stop at Starbucks. We had more than enough time but the drive through took longer than anticipated. I ran into the school and my boots aren’t worn in so they’re slippery, so I couldn’t stop and ran into the door, and well you know what happened after that.” I finally got it all out with one breath. “Uh-huh…” There was silence before he said, “Please don’t cause such a disruption in my classroom again.” “Of course Mr. Wilson.” “Thank you. You may leave.” I turned around to rush to scurry to my next class. “Miss Jacobson…” I swing my head back towards him, my hair getting stuck in my mouth. “Happy Birthday.” “Thank you Mr. Wilson.” He just nodded. I finally got to Jen and let out a huge sigh. “Was it really that bad?” I hand her my Starbucks cup, “You have no idea.” I stick a hair tie in between my lips and throw my hair up into a messy bun, pulling two strands out on either side of my face. Jen hands me back my coffee. “Don’t ask?” I just shook my head as we walked through the hallway to American Literature. We sit down right next to each other and immediately start talking about normal teenage girl talk: gossip, boys, new clothes, rumors, stuff like that. I was doodling at the top of my notebook waiting for class to start when suddenly I got a whiff of a very strong but enticing scent. I look at Jen with my eyes wide open. She looks at me and her eyes start gleaming. She seems more excited than I am. “Go! I’ll cover for you! If anyone asks you don’t feel good and went to the office. The usual cover story” “Thanks Jen.” “You better fill me in next period!” “I will.” I get up and leave the classroom without my school supplies. I start wandering through the halls following the scent. I go to turn around a corner where it is becoming stronger. I turn the corner and run into a firm chest. OOF! “I am so sorry!” I hear a male voice. God my nose hurts! I don’t look up just holding my nose. How am I supposed to follow the scent?!?! Ignore that for a second and focus on the problem in front of you Grace! “It was my fault.” I finally muttered out. “Are you okay? Is your nose bleeding?” “I don’t think so.” I pull my hand away and see blood. “That would be a yes.” Why do I feel like I’m flying? Why are there 3 blurry guys in front of me? Suddenly everything goes from dizzy to flying forwards as I start heading to the ground. The last thing I remember is a pair of strong arms catching me.
