“Don’t you worry, hon… I’ll be right back tomorrow… in time for our 3rd wedding anniversary!,” Irven told me when I returned from getting his shoes. He was already sitting on the couch and seemed to be waiting for me to put his shoes on. I didn’t hesitate to put my freshly washed black socks on him and then put on both of his black leather shoes that I had polished last night. “Thank you for remembering our anniversary, hon… my husband is really handsome… anyway, eat while the food is still hot!,” I told him after making sure he was in a good posture. “Oh… hon, sorry I’m really late, it’s better if you eat alone, right?,” Irven stood up and handed over the suitcase and a bagpack. "Drink some coffee first, that way your stomach will be warm... Just wait, I'll get some!" I quickly told him and grabbed a cup of coffee and his lunch box from the table. When I returned to the living room, I could clearly see a smile on Irven's lips as he was reading something on his phone. He immediately put his phone in his pocket when he saw me. “Hon, this oh… drink it before you go!,” I said to him. “Thank you hon,” he handed me the cup and immediately took a sip just the usual way he does to his coffee. “Mmmm… your coffee is still delicious, hon… thanks!,” he smiled broadly at me, which made my heart leaped for joy. He never fails to appreciate me, so I just fall in love with him every single day of our marriage. With his charismatic smile that melts all my worries and doubts in our relationship. My day is complete as long as I serve him properly and make him smile. “As much as I want to eat breakfast with you, hon, but it's really late, I have to go!,” he handed me the coffee mug that was still half full. “Okay, hon, be careful!,” I instructed him. “Stay here hon…. eat and rest, I can manage!,” he immediately snapped at me when I took his backpack from him to take him out of the garage. “Okay hon… I love you!,” I whispered to him but it seemed like he didn’t hear me because he took big steps out the door. I just sighed. This is not him, it seems like something is wrong but I just put aside the negative thoughts for now. My husband must be thinking a lot and he will be late for his flight. I hurriedly looked outside to see the car with Irven driving out of the garage. I guess I need to get used to the situation because my husband’s busy schedule. He is a college president and CEO of their prestigious school now. Instead of thinking badly, I should have always supported him. “Haist… I just really love you… hon… be careful!,” I murmured as the car is nearly out of the gate. As usual, my day would start again without my husband by my side. I just drank Irven’s leftover coffee and walked to the kitchen. Irven's uninformed activities and appointments have been rampant in the past weeks already but he made it sure that he finds a time for us to bond together. I'm not a luxurious wife. Just a simple token from where he's from is okay with me. Just like last week he was in Vigan for two days because of the inauguration of their college branch there. “Good morning to the kindest and most exemplary wife and brother in the world!,” my thoughts stopped when I heard my little sister gentle voice. “Oh, Nic… join me in eating!,” I told her. “Sis, has Bro Irven left yet?,” she asked as she sat down next to me at the table. “Yes, he’s going to Cebu!,” I replied. “Well, how’s your anniversary tomorrow?,” my sister was really inquisitive I guess. “He’ll be back tomorrow!,” I said. “Are you sure, sis, is he really coming back home tomorrow?,” she said while chewing on a pork chop. “Yes, of course!,” I quickly replied but deep down I still felt unsure because it felt like there was something heavy weighing on my chest that I couldn’t figure out.
