Hunting with My Hubby

"That was amazing! I'm so proud of everyone for what they caught, I don't think we've ever had a hunt where every single one of us caught something on the first hunt of the trip but then again we haven't been out here for a while and all of our family has grown in so many ways." my adrenaline was pumping as we headed out to hunt just the two of us. I could tell that Mark was getting excited about our hunt also. "Where do you want to scout for prey? You're always the best at tracking so let's start where you want to go and then track as we work our way back to the cabin. I know you had mentioned the cave earlier but I wasn't sure if that's where we would start or not" "We should go see if anything has been in the cave we found the first time we were here, we could find just about anything since it's the start of the creek and main source of water. We'll check the other Caves as we work our way back.. Since the water comes out from under the ground in the first one and it's warm I'm sure animals are attracted to it." "Good idea! Did you make your amazing dehydrated snacks and bring some with?" he was always excited to eat things that I made. "Of course I did!" I reached into my pouch and tossed one to him with a smile on my face. "Race you there?" I took a bite of one I took out for myself and gave him a smirk, then raced off with him right on my heels but as we got to the creek that lead to the cave we were heading for he slipped his arm around my waist and stopped me in my tracks. I saw his hand go up slowly pointing across the creek into the trees and focused on what I was seeing not sure if it was real. I hadn't ever seen anything like it before in my life but it reminded me of what a dragon was described to look like. The sun had already set so I wasn't sure if it was grey or a shade of bluish green, it was for sure a huge lizard with a really long tail and scale covered body. I didn't see wings but that didn't mean anything with not being able see it very well in the darkness. I wanted to get closer but Marky wouldn't let me so we avoided it and kept heading towards the cave. "What do you think it eats?" I said as soon as I figured we were out of its hearing range. "I don't know and to be honest with how big it was I don't want to find out either. I already know that you aren't going to let this go though, just please promise me that you won't go looking for it tonight." he sounded very concerned. I bit my lip, "I promise but in the morning I want to see if we can find it again in the light, I really want to see what it looks like and track it for a little while. I'm pretty sure it's only here because of the caves and no one is out here other than when we visit, which we haven't been out here in a while so it's comfortable." I shrugged and kept walking. "That thing could eat you, just make sure it doesn't see you. I don't like this idea at all and I'm not trying to have you ate on our anniversary get away...." I laughed but he was serious so he glared at me. "I'll be alright, I'll fill you in a bit on why I know I'll be alright when we get to the cave... I can't say anything more until we're there, alright?" I intertwined my fingers in his and started walking a bit faster so he got into pace with me. We found our way back to the creek and followed it to the cave but didn't go in right away because I wanted to go on top of it to lay there and gaze up at the stars a bit first. "I love that you enjoy laying under the night stars with my arms wrapped around you. Do you know that?" he asked me. "Yes, I know. Do you know that I love laying in your arms under the wide open sky?" I looked into his eyes and smiled. "I hope that you do and I hope that you never do anything to crazy and get mauled by a wild animal. You really scared me earlier, you looked entranced like you were going to try to cuddle it or something." "You worry to much, let's go in the cave.... I have something to talk to you about...." We climbed down and started to go into the cave entrance, "I only wanted to get a closer look at it and try to figure out what exactly it is but you're right and my grandmother warned me about being cautious while we were here. I guess, I may know why now but this might not be what she was warning about." "Your grandmother? You had a vision?" "Yeah and she told me to prepare you for a journey into a vision with me sometime soon. Said that I had to wait to tell you until we were inside the cave that lead us to buying this property so when you asked to hunt alone with me tonight I decided it would be perfect timing." "Did she say how to prepare me?" "No but I'm pretty sure she just meant by talking to you about it. Maybe there's something in here that will help prepare both of us? My vision that I had before I met you I brought Johnie with me and he was wrapped up in my arms sleeping so maybe all we have to do is fall asleep together at the right time? This is all still pretty new to me." He slowed down, "Chevy..... look....." he pointed ahead of us. As I gazed into the darkness, I noticed light that had never been there any other time that we had been here and I coaxed him closer to the light coming from the cave wall. The closer we got the more lights we could see, it looked like they were moving. The closer we got the prettier they looked and they were absolutely alive. When he saw them close up he grabbed my arm, "You promised.... it's time to go.... we can come back in the day light Shavell....." "I promised I wouldn't go looking for the big one but we didn't discuss if we found more....." I smirked. They were all types of colors and it looked like there had been holes dug into the cave wall specifically for them to stay in. A thick foamy glass like substance contained them in their temporary homes. I admired them for a moment before he disturbed my train of thought again.. "Come on Shavell..... the big one could show up at any time.... your grandmother warned you to be cautious, remember??" "She also directed me here though, knowing that I would absolutely love to investigate these beautiful creatures. We can go though, they're so pretty, I wonder what makes them glow? I'll have to ask my grandmother in my next vision with her." As we turned around, I could hear something moving towards the entrance and Marky pulled me into a small cavern inside the wall. "I can hear you breathing... if a single one of my children was harmed I'll hunt you down and devour you slowly." Mark covered my mouth and held me close to his chest, knowing that I wanted to respond so badly. "Why are you here? My children say you could have destroyed them all but instead you admired them. Are you friend or foe?" I wouldn't be contained any longer, "Friend, this is our land and I would do no harm to such amazing creatures as you. I only wanted to learn more and observe your children's beauty. This cave is the reason we bought this land and my grandmother instructed me to come here tonight." "Well, friend.... please come into the light so I may see you better." I couldn't see her but I knew she was down by her baby's somewhere. I walked slowly in that direction and when I turned the bend I saw her in all her glory. She was a misty kind of purple and her scales sparkled in her children's light, as I looked into her eyes I could see the most beautiful orange with flecks of yellow and she seemed to have fur growing around her throat like a mink was wrapped around her. "You're magnificent....." was all I could say. "I've never seen a human this close up before but you are very beautiful also. I came here because my forest was cut down, I have nowhere else to go." she looked at her baby's and then into my eyes and down to the floor. "I would love for you to stay, no one will ever cut my forest down and I will never let anyone harm you. We come out here to hunt and check the land from time to time. What do you eat?" I was so curious but I also knew that Mark was ready to leave. "I eat fish mainly and small rodents but my children eat insects. We will stay as long as we're welcome, thank you for being a friend." "I'll bring you some treats in the morning, I'd love to get to know you better. We leave tomorrow night to go back home but we'll return in 4 weeks, I'll plan a longer stay for next trip but I'll see you in the morning. If you need me, I'm in the cabin at far end of the creek. We'll bring supplies to keep this area safe and private for on our next trip. It was nice to meet you, my name is Shavell but most call me Chevy or Mom." "I'm Zevana but I go by Zeava, I await your return Mrs. Chevy and appreciate your kindness." I waved goodbye excitedly and almost fell into my husband who was as motionless as the cave walls. "Come on.... the kids are waiting for us and we haven't even caught anything.... oh.... wait...." I ran back, "Are there anymore of you out here?" I asked. "No, I'll stay in this cave for the night so you can have your hunt without worrying. I think your husband needs you, his thoughts are a bit jumbled at the moment.... Yes, I can hear your thoughts and I trust you." "You're so cool!! I'll see you tomorrow! " I ran to Mark grabbed his hand and shook him a bit then gave him a kiss and lead him out of the cave, "This is amazing!" I whispered. "Let's hunt on our way back, she says she'll stay there with her baby's the rest of the night." "You're crazy, do you know that?" I laughed and he glared at me for laughing. "You love that I'm crazy though...." I winked and ran off into the woods towards the cabin, I could hear him not far behind me. We slowed our pace once I felt like he was holding pace with me which meant the jog had calmed his nerves, he really thought she was going to eat me. "Do you think the mustangs are still here? I hope they weren't rounded up by poachers, you know Zeava is a good thing right? She can watch our land when we aren't here and she's really nice." "Just be cautious, like your grandmother said please. We don't know she is or what she's capable of, your grandmother wanted me there with you for a reason. You jump into things to fast sometimes and I'm more cautious about these situations." "She knows you don't trust her but she still let us leave, she was very nice actually. I like her..." We didn't talk anymore the rest of the way but we bagged a few ducks and pheasant which cheered him a bit. When we got back to the cabin everyone was already sleeping soundly and I didn't want wake them so we prepped the fowl on the porch in the fresh air. "Are you coming with me in the morning?" "I'll let you know when we wake up. I have to think about this some more, I still can't believe you just risked your life like that. I get that you have to make sure she's safe to have on our land but that was dangerous and could have ended badly." he leaned over and kissed me on my forehead, "I'll see you when you come to bed, I'm going to get inside. I love you." "I love you too, I'll be up there as soon as I get these put away and get washed up." He was already sleeping by the time I got in the room so I snuggled up to him and he wrapped his arms around me as I fell asleep.
