After work hours had passed, the advertising company's building was left with only a few lights on.Alison sat at her workstation, her fingers flying over the keyboard as she worked on a report that was not yet complete. She knew that tonight's business dinner was an important opportunity for her,but she was also aware that her boss,Jack Thompson, would not easily let her take the spotlight in front of the clients. She had to be well-prepared to ensure that she would not be easily overlooked. "Miss Moore, are you still working overtime?"Susan's voice interrupted Alison's thoughts as she approached. Alison turned around to see Susan holding a black dress,a mysterious smile on her face."I know you have a dinner tonight, and this dress will suit you perfectly,"Susan said, handing the dress to Alison with an expectant look in her eyes. "Thank you so much,Susan. You're a lifesaver,"Alison said, accepting the dress gratefully. She knew she didn't have much time to prepare, and this dress was undoubtedly the best choice for tonight. "Go ahead and try it on.I promise you'll be the star of the evening,"Susan urged, pushing her gently. Alison went into the office restroom and changed into the dress Susan had brought. It was a classic little black dress that accentuated her slender figure, with pearl embellishments at the neckline adding a touch of elegance. She looked at herself in the mirror, smoothing her hair, and took a deep breath to steady her nerves. Back at her desk, she saved the report and prepared to leave. As she stepped out of the office building,a cold breeze greeted her, sending a shiver down her spine. The New York night was always a bit chilly, especially in the shadow of the towering skyscrapers in Midtown. Alison hailed a taxi and gave the address of the Harrison Building. As the taxi navigated through the traffic, she gazed out the window at the cityscape, her mind filled with a mix of excitement and apprehension. The Harrison family was a New York legend, and their dinner was undoubtedly a high-society event. She was just a small-firm employee—what opportunities or challenges would she face tonight? The taxi pulled up in front of the Harrison Building, and Alison paid the fare, taking a deep breath before stepping into the building that symbolized power and wealth. The lobby was opulently decorated, with crystal chandeliers casting a soft glow and marble floors reflecting the guests'images.Alison looked up,feeling a sense of awe. "Welcome, are you a guest for tonight's event?"the security guard asked with a smile. "Yes,I'm Alison Moore from the advertising firm,"she replied, her voice tinged with nervousness. The guard nodded and gestured for her to proceed.Alison stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the top floor. As the doors closed, her heartbeat quickened. She kept reminding herself to stay calm;this was an opportunity she couldn't afford to miss. The elevator doors opened to a burst of noise. The top-floor ballroom was ablaze with lights, and guests in luxurious attire mingled, their laughter filling the air.Alison stepped into the room, immediately overwhelmed by the opulence.Everything from the crystal chandeliers to the exquisite table settings exuded an air of grandeur. "Miss Moore, welcome,"a familiar voice said from behind.Alison turned to see her boss,Jack Thompson, approaching with a warm smile. "Boss,"Alison nodded, trying to read his expression. "The clients are already here. You should go and greet them,"Jack said, his tone carrying a hint of command. Alison nodded and followed Jack's direction toward a group of people in the center of the room.Several men in suits and women in elegant dresses were engaged in conversation, their laughter ringing out occasionally. "Everyone, this is Miss Alison Moore from our advertising firm,"Jack said as he approached the group."She's the lead planner for the advertising project." The group turned their attention to Alison, and she felt a wave of nervousness. But she quickly composed herself and offered a confident smile. "Miss Moore,it's a pleasure to meet you,"a middle-aged man stepped forward and extended his hand."I'm Arthur Harrison, the vice president of the Harrison Group.I've heard great things about your copywriting." "Mr.Harrison,it's an honor to meet you,"Alison shook his hand, feeling the warmth of his grip.Arthur Harrison was a key figure in the Harrison family, and meeting him was an honor. She knew that her work had impressed him, even if her boss had taken the credit. "Your copywriting is excellent and very creative,"Arthur praised."I'm looking forward to working with your firm." "Thank you for your kind words,Mr.Harrison,"Alison replied, trying to hide her frustration at her boss's actions. "By the way,my son,Alexander,is also interested in the advertising industry.Perhaps you two could have a chat,"Arthur said, turning to gesture toward someone deeper in the crowd. "Alexander?"Alison's heart skipped a beat. She had heard of Alexander Harrison, the eldest son and heir apparent of the Harrison Group. She had seen his photos in the newspapers—a stern and handsome man with an air of unapproachable authority. From the crowd,a tall figure emerged. He was dressed in a black suit with a slightly loosened tie, exuding an air of casual elegance. His deep-set features and piercing gaze swept across the room before settling on Alison. "Alexander, this is Miss Alison Moore from the advertising firm,"Arthur introduced. Alexander Harrison stepped forward and offered a faint smile, though his eyes were assessing."Miss Moore,it's a pleasure to meet you,"his voice was deep and magnetic, yet it carried an undercurrent of intimidation. "Mr.Harrison,"Alison nodded, striving to appear composed. She knew that this was just the beginning, and she was about to be drawn into a world far more complex than she had ever imagined. Alexander extended his hand, and after a moment's hesitation,Alison reciprocated.Their fingers touched lightly, and in that instant, she felt an intangible force.Alexander's eyes were deep and complex,as if he were trying to see through her. "Pleased to meet you,Miss Moore,"Alexander released her hand and smiled, though his smile held a hint of coldness that was hard to detect. Alison felt a shiver run down her spine. She knew that this man was far more than what met the eye.And she was about to be caught in a game she had never imagined playing.
