Alison arrived at the Harrison Building within the hour, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts. She took the elevator to the top floor, her heart pounding in her chest. When she stepped out,she was greeted by one of Alexander's assistants.
"Miss Moore,Mr.Harrison is waiting for you,"the assistant said, leading her down the hallway.
As she walked,Alison couldn't help but feel a sense of foreboding. The opulent decor and the hushed silence of the corridors only added to her unease. Finally, they reached Alexander's office. The assistant knocked softly before opening the door.
"Miss Moore,"Alexander greeted her, standing from behind his desk.He looked tired, his usually composed demeanor slightly frayed.
"Alexander,"she replied, her voice steady as she entered the room.
"Thank you for coming,"he said, motioning for her to sit."I need to show you something."
He walked over to a large safe in the corner of the room and entered a combination. With a soft click, the door swung open, revealing a stack of files.Alexander pulled out a thick folder and placed it on his desk.
"Take a look at this,"he said, pushing the folder toward her.
Alison opened it,her eyes scanning the pages. It was a detailed report on the Harrison family's business dealings, including their recent partnership with the Devereux family. But what caught her attention was a series of handwritten notes, detailing a secret plan to consolidate power through strategic marriages and business alliances.
"This is...this is incredible,"she murmured, her mind racing with the implications.
"I know,"Alexander said quietly."This is why my father wants you to marry me.He believes that with your intelligence and drive, you can help us navigate these complex alliances and secure our future."
Alison looked up,her eyes meeting his."And what about you,Alexander?Do you believe that?"
He sighed, running a hand through his hair."I don't know,Alison.Part of me wants to believe that this is the right path, but another part of me...I don't want to be just another pawn in my father's game."
Alison felt a wave of sympathy. She knew what it was like to feel trapped,to have your future decided for you.But she also knew that she couldn't let herself be swept up in a world she didn't fully understand.
"I need more time,"she said quietly."I need to understand everything before I can make a decision."
Alexander nodded, his expression softening."I understand.Take all the time you need,Alison. But remember, the clock is ticking."
With that,he stood and walked her to the door.As she stepped out into the hallway, she felt a mix of determination and fear. She knew that she was on the brink of a decision that could change her life forever, and she needed to be sure that she was making the right choice.
