Finding the monk

1233 Words
After dinner I retired to my bed where Thelma was already asleep I watched her for sometime..she'd have made a sweet little princess I scoffed at my own thoughts and laid down next to her I thought about mom's health, Thelma's education and what Hensiam had said today I wasn't ready to be married though all the girls I'd known growing up were all married to families of brass and silver for those that are lucky enough I touched Thelma's hair no silver in his right mind wouldn't want her she was soft, well spoken and very lady like unlike me who had a bit of biceps from lifting stuffs that weighed more than me when I was growing up ... I smiled remembering that I was feared in the neighborhood then because I had a muscular build and acted like one hence the reason I had no friends I shifted on my side and something fell off I picked it up it was the key from the monk I'd go to the monastery tomorrow morning to look for him and return it to him I don't steal from the poor with that thought I drifted softly to sleep. At first light the next day, I went to the monastery as luck would have it I found the monk quickly outside the temple praying it was a Friday so visitors were allowed in I walked up to him and waited till he was done then I handed the pouch to him he was amazed that I'd return it back to him I turned to leave and he stopped me " wait...who are you?" I replied "just a nobody" ..he kept talking "you look quite familiar I just can't place the face" I got alerted ready to Sprint in case he decided to call the guards . He smiled " don't be afraid I wouldn't talk about what happened yesterday I'm just happy you returned this' he said waving the oval shaped key "and that is what exactly"? I asked dryly . He smiled and said nothing "would you like some tea"? I nodded I couldn't remember the last time i relaxed to take tea I was never a patient one but something seemed off today besides I wasn't going to raid today cause I would still be wanted by the soldiers so I technically had nowhere to go and nothing to do ... I got home by sunset to find Thelma playing with the squirrel "Esther" she yelled while the squirrel danced all over her hair " really you named a squirrel Esther"? I asked her amused she laughed and said she was going to keep her ..she really liked this one I went inside to find mom sleeping i kissed her forehead i went to my room i could still hear Thelma's shrieks I thought about my visit to the monk he was really nice and quite understanding i stated feeling a bond with him like he was the father I never had I planned on going to see him tomorrow at least there was one person I could confidentially talk to I closed my eyes and ears to Thelma's noise and was soon asleep. Time brought us closer , I and Willow so was his name got really close I told him a lot about my life and family and he did likewise he had been serving the last king when he's family had died of a poisoning then he was second in command to the king due to his grief he had quit and took up a place as a monk then he was replaced by our current king.."didn't king Stephan had a child"? I asked "yes he did and the throne was passed to her and her husband Gregor but then Norman felt cheated as he thought that king Stephan will marry Michelle to him and make him king so he rivaled against Gregor and was able to kill him" .."what happened to Queen Michelle then ?" She was heavy with Gregor's child before his death so after she put to birth she hid her baby and was later discovered by Norman he forcefully married her but then her love for Gregor was so strong that she refused to be defiled by Norman instead she took her own life." I sighed "so that means there's an heir to the throne and nobody knows where he or she is"?. "well for all I know she might be dead because after Norman seized control he made sure every newly born baby in Iyrolia was killed but there's no telling of fate ... before her death the queen made a prophecy which i am not able to share with you cause of some reason best known to me" he said smiling i laughed and told him not to worry about it .. it wasn't my problem anyways. "Bella, you know you are a special child right? it will do me great honor that this story remains between us I'm the last person who knows the truth and is still alive so don't talk about it to anyone ok" I nodded wondering why people were power hungry like that while the poor masses only wished for good food, education and a better life those in power refuse to change anything instead they make people submit to their law and will "do you know what the queen looks like"? I suddenly asked willow looked me straight in the eyes but there was something different about it this time he looked at me intently and seriously "it can't be " he muttered "what's happening...willow?" " follow me he said and walked down an alley I shrugged and tagged along with him... Standing at the end of the aisle was a doorway with a kind of lock I haven't seen before he brought out the key which turned out to be the one I took up from him I smiled remembering the experience he placed it in a clockwise direction and the door slowly slide open it looked ancient and unused for a long time he walked inside briskly and I wondered what could be wrong with him he moved around the shelf searching for something i stood waiting for him he then picked a big black book and went to the window where light reflected into the room from on the book was written History of Iyrolia he turned the pages frantically and stopped when a picture fell off it he picked it and examined the picture constantly looking from my face to the picture he looked stunned and speechless.. I took the portrait off his hand and stared at it. it was a portrait of a young lady not much older than myself dressed in royal attire seated in a royal position she had brown hairs and a perfect A cut shaped face I couldn't make out much of her features cause the portrait was old beside her stood a man wearing a royal blue suit the color typical of a young king he had the posture of a stature and wore an equally happy smile at first I was confused on why Willow was making a big fuss over the portrait I stared at it once more this time intently then I noticed her deep green eyes, her straight nose and perfect cheekbone I gasped and this time muttered "it can't be "..
