chapter 6

I was fascinated by the house. I was small but cozy. It felt like a home lived in not just a place to sleep even with he minimum amount of things the home could have. Once I was done with the tour, my stomach growled, indicating I was hungry. I walked back to the kitchen and looked in the fridge. I was stocked full of everything you could think of. I grabbed some grape jelly out. I put it on the counter as I searched the readt of the kitchen for the peanut butter and bread. I found them side by side by the stove with the toaster on the other side. I put my sandwich together, sat it on the countertop by the stools, and put away the stuff I used. I say the knife in the sink with the thoughts of washing it once I finish my sandwich. I sit down and eat when Ava walks in. She sees I am done with my plate and takes it to the sink, and starts washing the dishes. "You know I would have done them when I was done with my sandwich." I tell her. "No. No. I got it. you don't have to worry about doing the dishes ever again. If you want food please just ask me. I will make it for you." She says with her head down. "Hey. What's wrong? I'm not going to make you do everything. I can clean up after myself. If Devon is telling you that I'm not supposed to do anything and let you do everything for me, then I will have a talk with him." I tell her gently. "It's not that. I want to prove that I am worthy of working for you to him. I don't want to lose my job. My sister is very sick, and I'm trying to help pay the bills. This is the best paying job I could find." She tells me. She is crying now. "Okay. It's okay. You won't be fired because I do something for myself. I will make sure of it. You have nothing to worry about. You are doing a great job." I tell her encouragingly. "I hope your sister is going to be okay. I am going to take a walk outside. Would you like to join me?" "I can't miss. I have to dust the house and go to the grocery store for dinner tonight." She tells me. "There's all kinds of food in the fridge. What would you need to pick up?" I ask her. "Oh, Devon wants lobster for dinner tonight, and he likes it fresh, so we pick it up the same day. It's not a big deal for me to get it. Is there anything that you would like while I'm there?" She asks. "No, I am good. Thank you for asking, though. Have a safe trip." I tell her. I walk out the back door to a huge yard. The house may be small, but the backyard makes up for it. There is a heated pool, a gazebo, and a tennis court. There is also a small vegetable garden off to the side. The privacy fence is huge, almost seven feet tall. I guess with how talk he is. He wanted the fence taller so no one could see him. I decide I'm going to lay beside the pool in one of the deck chairs. I pull out my phone and bring up my reading app. I get lost in my book and lose track of the time. I hear a panicked voice calling my name from within the house. Devon is back. " I'm out by the pool, Devon." I holler. "Omg. I have been calling for you for about 10 minutes." He tells me as he walks through the back door coming up to me. "Why didn't you answer the first time I called? I was starting to worry you left me or that someone kidnapped you." He pulls me up into his body and wraps his arms around me in a bear hug. "I'm sorry. I worried you. I was reading my book. I got so lost in it that I didn't hear what was going on around me until you were yelling louder." I say, trying to sooth him. I run my hands up and down his back. He starts to relax."I'm not going anywhere. If I do, I will tell you. You have nothing to worry about." " I'm sorry too. I overreacted. I'm glad you are here, though. I have something for you." He says and pulls a small box out of his pants. He opens the box to reveal a diamond necklace and earring set. "I know it's too early for a ring, but I had to get you something that represents my feelings for you. I heard diamonds are a girls best friend." "Thank you. I love them, but I can't accept them." I tell him. His face falls. "I can't accept them because they are too expensive. You don't have to buy me anything. You can show me your love by spending time with me. I don't need anything else. I'm not with you for your money. You are my mate, and I want to get to know you for you." "I know you don't want me for my money. I've never had anyone in my life before you. I've never been with a girl. I wanted to save myself for her. My dad always showers my mom with presents to show how much he loves her. He does other things too for her." He says. He puts my shifters to shame. I've never even thought of keeping myself for my mate even though I have never slept with someone. Wereleopards have a tendency to stray from their mates and sleep with others even after they find them. "Wow, we will be each other's first." I say. "I hope you will be my only too. I say. wereleopards have a tendency to be cheaters. I hope you never cheat on me." "Never." He growls. "Don't ever think that you are precious to me." We become quiet as we think about what has been shared between us.
