Chapter SixteenAnd suddenly, I remembered in vivid detail a dream I'd had the night before. I was driving a lone, dusty country road and the car suddenly stopped. Pulled itself over to the side of the road. As I watched the dust settle around the car, I felt great anticipation. I felt quite extraordinary, as if a powerful, external force had taken control of my hands and spun the steering wheel at a preconceived moment stopping the Chevy at an appointed place. I took a blanket from the trunk, spread it on the grass and settled on my back looking up at the iridescent sky through shuttered lids. So peaceful, slowly melting into the ground. Delicious. The grass felt soft, the air warm and buzzing with insect life. I slid into a reverie, padded against the outside, now muffled and far away.
