CHAPTER TWO

The car pulled over at a luxurious mansion. Although Bella came from wealth, she couldn't help being awed by the place. The moment the car stopped, Axel stepped out, leaving her to struggle with the gown alone. She struggled for minutes, pulling and tugging, till the driver offered a hand. She tried hard to steady her ragged breathing. She turned to thank the driver, but he had disappeared. The front door was closed. She hesitated, unsure whether to open it herself or ring the doorbell. Just then, a maid opened the door and bowed. "Welcome home, Mrs. Knight," she curtsied. Bella ignored her and stepped inside, where the Knights—her new parents-in-law—were already seated. "Oh dear!" Mrs. Knight exclaimed, pulling her into a hug. "You can just call me mum." "Mum? Wasn't that a bit too early?" Bella thought to herself but kept her face blank. "We had to leave early. Don't worry, your mother is taking care of things," Mrs. Knight said, as if trying to cover up for something. Bella nodded, not knowing what to say. She felt overwhelmed, and her cheeks burned from the stress. "Let me show you to your husband's room where you will be staying since you two are married. I trust that wouldn't be an issue?" "What… I mean hus…band? Oh yeah, husband. But we barely know each other," Bella stammered, trying to stay composed. But the f**k, she wasn't okay. She had never stayed in a room with a man before, talk more of sharing a room. "Lord, what have I done?" she muttered. "Know each other?" Mrs. Knight laughed, placing her hands gently on her shoulders. "You don't need to know each other. Married couples stay together." Bella's shoulders slumped. She knew there was no point arguing. She turned to glance at Mr. Knight, who was so engrossed in his phone. She sighed. Now she knew where Axel got the habit from. She reluctantly followed Mrs. Knight down the hallway. They reached a room. Mrs. Knight knocked twice. Each knock made Bella's heart flip. With no response, she opened the door. Slowly, Bella stepped in. Mrs. Knight winked and closed the door, leaving Bella alone. She glanced around the room. Although it was less decorated, it looked good. She sat on the bed, trying hard to wiggle out of the wedding gown. The bathroom door opened, and Axel stepped out, a towel tied to his waist. He paused, confused. For a moment she stared, lost, her eyes taking in his perfect abs, his tattooed chest, his muscles, his waistline. "Oh God," she breathed out before she realized. She quickly turned away, cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "Staring won't do you any good," Axel said with a smirk. "I….I.. wasn't staring," Bella stammered. "Didn't expect you to admit it." Axel removed his towel. Bella quickly ducked and covered her eyes. Axel stared at her, and for a second, a smile tugged at his lips but quickly disappeared. He did not know why, but this girl had somehow managed to amuse him. He ignored her and went to get dressed. When he noticed her zipper, for a second he hesitated, then went closer to help. "Stay away from me, you p*****t!" Bella erupted, grabbing a hairpin from her hair, pointing it defensively. "Okay, chill, princess," Axel said, his hands raised in surrender. "I'll leave you to get yourself out of the gown alone." "Oh…" Bella mumbled, realizing his purpose. "Help if you wanna help," she snapped. Axel smiled as he helped to unzip. He leaned closer. Bella felt the hairs on her neck tingle. "Don't worry, buttercup. I don't wanna f**k your little cunt just yet." "Get away from me," Bella pushed him away, her hands trembling slightly. He smiled that sly smile Bella hated so much and left the room. "Why was he being nice?" she thought to herself. Minutes ago he was cold to her, and suddenly he was being nice. She stared at the closed door, wondering where he was going. --- Axel walked into a house. In the sitting room, his friends sat playing cards. David stood to greet him. "Hey, look who we have here. The latest groom in town," David teased as he stood to shake his hand. Axel just ignored him and took a seat. "Welcome, Axel," Mia waved with a smile. Axel did not say a word. He reached for a bottle of wine and poured some of it into a glass. "Hey, dude, are you alright?" Mason asked. "I'm fine," he mumbled and drank from his glass in one gulp. "By the way, Axel, why are you here? Shouldn't you be drilling your college wife?" David asked, emphasizing the word "wife," making the rest laugh. Axel paused, trying not to show his anger. He grabbed the half-empty bottle of wine on the table and stood up. Everyone stopped laughing and looked at him. "Where are you going? You wanna get drunk and go f**k your wife?" Mason asked. "Maybe he can't stand her," Zara, who hadn't spoken, said, making them laugh again. Axel just ignored them and headed to David's room and crashed on the bed. Shortly, the door opened and Zara walked in. "Oh please," Axel mumbled, frustrated. He just wanted to be alone. She walked in stylishly, tracing her steps. "Axel," she called in an endearing tone as she got to where he was and sat next to him on the bed. "Are you okay?" she asked, leaning her hand on his shoulder. "I'm fine. I just want to be alone," he replied and continued drinking from the bottle. She smiled and touched his jaw. She traced her fingers down to his lips. "Maybe I know what you need." She said and collected the drink from him. She kept it on the floor and kissed him. "f**k, not now," Axel muttered but kissed back, entirely powerless. Then she came up and sat on his lap, making her butt touch his thighs. She made sure their lips didn't separate as she started moving her hips back and forth, making Axel moan. He couldn't control it anymore. He was fully turned on. He grabbed her and made her fall on the bed with him on top of her. As he was about to yank his trousers off, he suddenly stopped. He did not know how or why, but Bella's face flashed in his head for a second, and he just couldn't. Then he disentangled, picked up his drink, and continued drinking. "Axel," she called. "What's wrong?" "I can't do it. I'm married," Axel replied. Zara scoffed and stood up, her t**s dangling as she walked towards him. "What are you saying, Axel? It's something we have always done. I mean, you have always loved this." "Well, not anymore." Zara stared at him and chuckled. "Are you kidding me? You've just been married for what, a few hours, and you've already decided to join the faithful husband squad?" "I'm not sticking anywhere. I just don't feel like it," he said and walked out. Zara watched him leave, infuriated. She picked up a flower vase and flung it across the room. Outside, the rest sat playing truth or dare. "Ohh, man drilled some cunt before going home," David joked. Axel shook his head and left the house. They were all used to his coldness. In the car, Axel drowned himself in drinking. He had gone there to confront them for not coming to his wedding, but it was clear they weren't interested. --- Axel returned home. He stumbled to the room, tired. The room was dark. As he turned to turn on the lights, he paused. Bella was on the bed, curled up under the duvet, fast asleep. He ambled to where she was and sat on the edge of the bed, staring at her face. He traced his fingers on her long hair, then stopped. "No, he wasn't supposed to be doing this right now," he muttered to himself, but he couldn't look away. "No, he couldn't fall in love." "He couldn't make her fall in love with him." He recited his rules, sighed, and leaned against the wall. This girl was tempting. He took one last look at her and then turned to sleep on the other side of the bed. --- IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT Bella finally forced her eyes open. Her stomach growled in hunger. She stood up and noticed Axel sleeping soundly. She wondered when he had come back. She shrugged and ignored him, then tiptoed gently out of the room. "Where the f**k was the kitchen?" she mumbled. The house was too quiet. She tiptoed gently, using her eyes to check if there was anyone awake. She wasn't about to be tagged the bride who sneaked into the kitchen to eat on her wedding day. "Lord, help me," she muttered a silent prayer. As she was about to take the last step, she felt something hard hit her. She turned to see, but fainted on the spot. In the dark, a figure stood looking down at her. Who was that, and why hit her?
