Panic Mode

"You need to take me home." Emmeline had called Jamie as soon as Hanne had left her alone in her room.  This is too much. I don't belong here. Emmeline paced back and forth in front of the huge bed and her eyes filled with tears. All she wanted to do was to find out about her parents and where she came from, and now she was supposed to deal with finding her apparent soul mate?!  Sure, he's beautiful and sexy and his voice sounds like caramel, but a soul mate? He smelled amazing and surely I would feel safe in those strong, muscular arms... Emmeline shook her head and pulled herself out of her thoughts. She barely even knew the guy! For all she knew, he could be some crazy serial killer. Em, he's probably not a serial killer. Maybe not a serial killer, but she knew nothing about him. All she really knew about this 'mate' of hers was that his name was Tristan and he was the Alpha's son. She didn't even know his surname. A relationship took time, didn't it? You got to know each other. You didn't just suddenly decide that this person was your forever... did you? "I'll have the car ready in 15," Jamie's disembodied voice spoke down the phone and she ended the call with relief. She felt so overwhelmed and just wanted to get back home to her own flat. This suite was impressive but it wasn't home. She needed her tartan blanket and her slippers with ears on. She needed familiarity. Emmeline felt guilty about just leaving since they had only just arrived, but Jamie had assured her that he would smooth things over with his father and explain that she needed space. He was a good guy, she thought to herself. He was being a good friend. Emmeline picked her bag up from where she had dropped it on the floor by the door and made her way downstairs slowly, keeping an eye out for anyone that might want her to explain her swift exit. She knew that she was being a bit rude but she didn't have the energy to talk about everything.  "Thanks for doing this." Emmeline smiled a small smile at Jamie as he shut the boot after she had put her bag in. "I just can't deal with all of this. Not all at once." "It's totally understandable." Jamie nodded as he situated himself in the driving seat and she got in next to him. "It's a lot to take in. My brother is a lot as well, he didn't handle it too well. He can be a douche." Emmeline shrugged and looked back at the imposing manor house. She was sure that Tristan hadn't meant to act the way he did, but she didn't want to be around him. The way he had looked at her as if he needed her which had quickly changed to a fierce look of anger. He had acted as if he'd been furious that she was his mate.  The drive back to her flat was a lot quicker than their journey to the pack's village earlier in the day. Jamie walked her up to her front door and she was thankful for the company.  He had understood her need to get away from the clan, without needing her to explain why she needed to leave.  "Thanks for the lift." Emmeline smiled shyly up at Jamie, who leaned against the doorframe. He smiled at her warmly. "I'd do anything for you, Emmeline. I hope you know that. Do you want me to stay?" Emmeline shook her head to decline his offer. "I just need to be alone." She sighed, hoping that he would get the idea and leave her to her thoughts. Her many, many thoughts.  "He doesn't deserve you, you know," Jamie continued and she looked up at him with confusion written across her face. "He shouldn't be your mate." "I don't even want a mate. I hadn't even heard of mates until today!" Emmeline exclaimed, throwing her bag onto the floor in the living area. She crossed her arms and looked up at Jamie and repeated herself. "I don't want him as my mate." Jamie grinned widely at her and took a step closer to her, closing the distance between them. "I hoped you would say that." Emmeline barely had time to register his words before his lips were on her. For a second, she kissed him back until she realised what was happening. She didn't want this. She definitely didn't want Jamie.  "What the hell are you doing?" Her voice was raised and she was angry. "I wish I’d never found out the truth. I don’t want any of this. I want to be normal!" Emmeline shoved him away from her as she vented her frustrations.  I hate all of this. I don't want this. "Get out!" She pushed him again and tears started to stream down her face. "I wish I'd never met you!" With her final words, she slammed the door closed on him and slid down to the floor. Head in her hands, she finally let the tears flow.
