The Misty Isle Clan

1101 Words
TWO MONTHS LATER Emmeline was finally beginning to settle into her new life with the Misty Isle Clan. After her meeting with the Council had ended, she had been sent home with the two men to 'help her pack', as Elder Frost had phrased it. Rather, she thought, as her bodyguards, to make sure she didn't get up to any mischief such as trying to get out of moving to a pack. By that very evening, her stoic bodyguards had received information as to where Emmeline was being sent. She had been ushered into a car that had taken them to a small airport, the name of which she hadn't been told. If it hadn't been for the situation she was in, she'd have been pretty excited about being on a plane for the first time. It was an awfully small plane, she had thought as they boarded. They were the only ones on board and she wondered if it was a private plane or just an incredibly unpopular route. They had disembarked from the plane after around three hours and she had immediately been whisked away into a large black car with tinted windows. On the signs they passed as they drove, she had figured out that they must have flown to Inverness. I guess Scotland wasn't so crazy far after all, she had thought to herself with a small smile.  They had taken another two hours to reach the final destination and Emmeline had fallen asleep in the car. She had fought to keep her eyes open since she wanted to see everything - the scenery was beautiful and she wanted to take it all in. Exhaustion had overtaken her and she only woke up after they had arrived at their destination. Her new home, the Misty Isle Clan.  The clan was small with fewer than 100 people. Emmeline wondered if that's why Elder Frost had chosen this clan since she wouldn't get lost in hundreds of pack members. After her rocky start with clan life thanks to Black Down and the Council, the Misty Isle Clan had been an incredibly warm welcome. "Alright, lass?"  Emmeline looked up from her books to see the former alpha, Lyall, making his way through the library. She grinned at him.  "Aye, just bonnie," she responded and he laughed at her use of Scottish slang.  "How's the research going, lassie?" Lyall sat next to her at the large oak table and looked over the books she had been reading. Since retiring from his role as Alpha the previous year, Lyall had spent the majority of his time in the library, working to chronicle his clan's history. He had always loved history, but his role as Alpha had left him with no time to work on anything like that. Now that his son, Conan, had taken over as Alpha, Lyall had all the time in the world to work on documenting the Misty Isle Clan's history.  "It's... going," Emmeline replied with a chuckle. She had spent the majority of the past two weeks doing her best to learn about werewolf history, law, and societal norms. She had learnt all about the mate bond and how their mate was supposedly given to them by the Moon Goddess herself. Reading about the Moon Goddess had been enlightening for Emmeline and, even though she still wasn't sure how much she believed the stories, she found it intriguing.  Selene, the Moon Goddess, was the main deity in the werewolf world. There was even a myth about people being granted a second chance mate if something happened to their first mate, although there was very little evidence of this happening often.  "I'm trying to find out more about the clans near where I was born," Emmeline explained her predicament to Lyall, turning to face him and resting her chin in her hands. "But I can't find much information at all yet." "Most of the books we have here are related to Scottish clans, I'm afraid." Lyall leafed through one of the books that she had laid out on the table. "You're reading about rogues?" Emmeline shrugged and flipped through a few pages until she found the one she wanted.  "I was wondering if my parents were rogues. Elder Frost called me a rogue, so I was curious whether there was anything that would explain whether my parents were too. But I've got nothing." She sighed as her eyes traced the words on the page. The chapter discussed rogue-born werewolves and it didn't seem to sound like her situation at all.  "I don't know that you would have fitted in with the human world so well if your parents were rogues," Lyall mused and Emmeline wasn't even sure if he was talking to her or just thinking aloud. "You're fiercely independent, which I would expect from a rogue-born wolf, but you're also pretty trusting. You don't shy away from everyone here and you don't rebel against us either. It's hard to tell, lass. I'm sorry." Emmeline smiled at him reassuringly. Lyall had been nothing but kind to her since her arrival and owed her no apologies whatsoever. He was the closest thing to a father figure that she had ever had and she was thankful to him for taking her under his wing.  "Don't you have training, lass? You dinnae want to be late - Lachlann will have you running laps or swimming if you're not careful," Lyall warned her jovially. Until she had arrived on Skye, she had never heard a Scottish accent in person and she had quickly come to love the lilting and musical accent. It had taken her a while to acclimate to the accent and even more so to the dialect - when Gamma Lachlann, her fighting instructor, had shouted at some boys to be quiet, she'd had no idea what was even going on.  "Haud yer weesht, Hamish! Ye better stop yer bletherin' before I gie ye a skelpit lug!" Lyall had doubled over in unstoppable laughter when she came to him later and asked to know what a weesht and a skelpit lug were. As he regained his composure, he had explained to her that Lachlann was simply giving Hamish a wee telling off for talking too much in training. "I don't doubt that laddie deserved it!" He had guffawed. "Get on with ye, lass. I'll put these here books away." Emmeline smiled thankfully at Lyall as she noticed quite how late it was. She needed to get to training before Lachlann gave her the same dressing down that he gave the boys.
