I never imagined my mother would go this far. Why was she doing this? Marrying a wealthy man wasn’t enough for her; she wanted everything. Every last piece of their fortune. And somehow, I was supposed to help her take it.
But I was a medical student. How could I possibly manage a company? I didn’t know the first thing about business.
“Celeste.” Elewon’s voice snapped me back to reality. “What the hell are you thinking about?”
“Nothing,” I said, forcing a small smile.
“Really?” She stared at me like she could see right through me. “Are you sure you’re fine?”
I nodded quickly. “Yes. What did you want to say?”
Elewon didn’t answer. She just kept looking at me with that concerned expression, and I knew she wouldn’t let this go. She never did.
“You’re hiding something from me,”
