Chapter Three: The Midnight Meeting

1088 Words
It was well past midnight, and Sabrina Silvermoon couldn't sleep. Her mind was racing with thoughts of potions and spells, of Beatrix Wilder and Dylan Moonstone. She tossed and turned in her bed, until finally, she decided to get up. Slipping on her robe, Sabrina quietly made her way out of the dorm and down the empty halls of the Magisterium. She wasn't sure what she was looking for, but something was pulling her deeper and deeper into the castle. The castle was eerily silent, but Sabrina could feel the ancient magic that infused every stone and every beam. She wandered down corridors she'd never explored, her curiosity driving her forward. At last, she came to a large, ornate door, its surface covered in intricate carvings. Sabrina reached out and placed her hand on the cool metal, and to her surprise, the door creaked open, revealing a stairwell that descended into darkness. Without hesitation, Sabrina followed the stairs down, the flickering light of her wand casting strange shadows on the walls. As she descended, Sabrina found herself wondering if she was doing something foolish, wandering through the castle at night. But the pull of magic was strong, and she couldn't help but follow where it led her. Finally, she reached the bottom of the stairs, finding herself in a large, circular chamber. The room was bare except for a single chair in the center, its back turned towards her. Sabrina's heart quickened. She knew she should turn back, but she couldn't help but walk forward, her wand held high for light. As Sabrina approached the chair, she realized that there was someone sitting in it, their back still turned to her. She could sense a powerful magic emanating from the person, and a sense of dread began to creep into her mind. "Who...who are you?" Sabrina asked, her voice trembling slightly. The figure turned to face her, revealing a face that was at once young and ageless. Their eyes shone with a dark, knowing light, and Sabrina felt herself sway as she stared into their gaze. "Sabrina Silvermoon," the figure said, their voice soft but commanding. "You seek answers. Answers I can give you, if you are willing to listen." Sabrina swallowed hard, unsure whether to run or stay and hear what this mysterious person had to say. "I...I am listening," she replied. "Good," the figure said, their smile like a blade. "Then sit, and I will tell you the truth about this place. The Magisterium is not the safe haven you think it is. "The Magisterium was founded on lies, deception, and murder. Those in power have twisted its original purpose, turning it into a tool for their own selfish gain. Beatrix Wilder is not your enemy, Sabrina. She is merely a pawn in their game." Sabrina's heart was pounding now, her mind reeling from the revelation. "Who are you?" she asked again, her voice barely a whisper. "I am the Black Witch," the figure replied, their eyes flashing with dark magic. "And I have been waiting for you." "You see, Sabrina," the Black Witch continued, standing now and circling her like a predator. "You have a power within you. A power that the Magisterium fears. A power that could bring down their whole world." "What power?" Sabrina asked, her eyes wide with fear. "What are you talking about?" The Black Witch laughed, the sound echoing off the walls of the chamber. "You are the Silvermoon Enchantress. Your family has hidden your true lineage from you, but I can show you the way. "I am an orphan," Sabrina protested, feeling a surge of anger and confusion. "I have no family." The Black Witch shook her head, her smile never wavering. "That is what you have been told, but it is not the truth. Your mother, the Silvermoon Enchantress, was a powerful witch, feared by the Magisterium for her strength. When they realized she had a daughter, they knew they had to silence her." Sabrina's hand shot to her mouth, her mind racing with a thousand questions. "My mother...she's dead? They killed her?" The Black Witch nodded, her expression growing cold. "Yes, Sabrina. The Magisterium killed your mother to prevent the Silvermoon Enchantress from rising again. But they could not silence her power forever. It lives on in you, waiting to be unleashed." Sabrina shook her head, feeling a mixture of anger and sorrow welling up inside her. "Why are you telling me this? What do you want?" "I want you to join me," the Black Witch replied, her eyes glowing with intensity. "The Magisterium has kept us both in the dark for too long," the Black Witch continued, her voice rising with passion. "Together, we can uncover their secrets and take back what is rightfully ours. We can restore balance to the magic world, and make them pay for what they have done." Sabrina felt her heart pounding against her chest, her thoughts racing with the possibilities. The Black Witch's words resonated with her, stirring up a deep-seated desire for justice and truth. But there was something about the woman that made her uneasy, something she couldn't quite put her finger on. Sabrina shook her head, her lips tightening into a determined line. "I can't," she said, her voice firm despite the tremor in her hands. "I can't just trust you like this. I need more time. I need to think." The Black Witch's expression darkened, her eyes narrowing. "You are making a mistake, Sabrina. This is your destiny, whether you like it or not." "I'm sorry," Sabrina said, turning to leave. "I have to find my own way." As Sabrina made her way back up the stairs, her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. Could the Black Witch be telling the truth? Was she really the daughter of a powerful witch, hidden away and lied to all her life? She thought of Beatrix Wilder, and the cruel words she had spoken. Was she really just a pawn in a bigger game? As she reached the top of the stairs and stepped back into the familiar halls of the Magisterium, Sabrina knew that she was going to have to make a decision. As Sabrina stood in the darkened hallway, the weight of her revelation pressing down on her, she knew that nothing would ever be the same again. She had been lied to, manipulated, and now the truth was beginning to surface. But what would she do with this newfound knowledge? Only time would tell.
