Layton POV
Tonight, I gather the ladies so that we can do a locator spell. I haven’t shown them the Book of Shadows yet because I’m worried it’ll be too much for them, but they need to start working on more potions, and we have no time to waste. “Girls, I call?”
“Wassup?” Selene answers as she walks into the kitchen.
“What’s the creepy book?” Amara asks, grabbing a muffin.
Thalia just stares. “It looks familiar.”
“Well, I’m assuming you probably saw your nan with this same book,” I tell her. “It’s been in your family for centuries.”
“Question, Layton. How do you know everything about our family?” Thalia asks.
“Despite being, uh, I don’t know, a walking angel who’s been back and forth from Earth to headquarters,” I say, pointing to the sky, “I’ve been around centuries helping my innocents. It’s my purpose to know everything about your family.”
“But where did you learn?”
“It’s complicated, and either way, I don’t think the elders would appreciate me going into detail. But, anyway, this book has the face of every demon the previous witches in your family faced. It even has random mystical creatures from the magical world. This book will be like a guide. If you come across a demon you need to know more about or any magical creatures, it will be in this book. Over time, I’d like you to write your own battles in here. It’s a record for the witches to come. This book is spellbound to you three, as you are the Charmed Ones. If it ever got into the wrong hands, a lot of magical secrets could be used against you. So, it’s very important that you keep this book and your magic a secret between the three of you.”
“Okay, so what are we learning?” Selene asks, her green eyes curious.
“You girls are going to find the locator spell in this book. Find the ingredients you need to track your parents. We need to stake out wherever they are before we head in to get them, okay? I’ll leave you to it.”
“What do you mean you’ll leave us to it?” Thalia asks.
“Relax. Everything you need to know is in the book and ingredients in the kitchen before your very eyes.”
“But where are you going?” she asks.
“I have errands.”
“Errands?” Amara questions.
“Yes, angel things. When I get back, I expect this to be done. We need to speed this up because we need your parents back home and safe.”
“Okay,” the girls say in unison.
Thalia POV
“Okay,” I say, standing above the book with my sisters in the kitchen. “So he called it a locator spell. Take me to the locator spell,” I say to the book, and it flips fast, page after page, before coming to a full stop. The pages look ancient but somehow perfectly intact. I observe the page with the locator spell. It has a drawing of a bowl with ingredients and the names of each item written clearly.
“We need something that belongs to Mom or Dad,” Amara says.
“We need blood of the seeker, so a drop of blood from each of us,” I say. “We also need a map of the Underworld. We’ll need one for both the world and underworld and the magical realm, and a crystal charged with moonlight.”
“I’ll check the attic for that,” Selene says as she walks out to go look for those things.
“I’ll set the crystal outside until we’re ready,” Amara says.
I read over the lines to chant:
“Blood of ours, through realms untold,
Guide us to the ones we hold.
Through earth and air, and time undone,
Reveal to us where they have gone.”
