Chapter: The Rescue Mission The cave is thick with tension, its walls echoing with the faint, ominous hum of dark magic. The sisters gather, their hearts pounding in unison as the weight of their mission presses down on them. Layton stands before them, his face grim but resolute. Layton: “Alright, everyone, listen up. We need to be quick and coordinated. Thalia, you’ve been working on your time manipulation, right?” Thalia nods, her determination unwavering but a flicker of doubt in her eyes. “Yes, I can freeze time for a short while.” Layton: “Good. When you freeze the demons, Amara, you’ll need to throw the fire potions then focus all your energy to break your parents’ chains. Can you handle it?” Amara’s face tightens with uncertainty, but she draws on her inner strength. “I’ll try. But I’ve never done anything like this before.” Thalia leans in closer, her voice steady and reassuring. “Trust yourself, Amara. Focus. We’re here with you. You can do this.” Layton shifts his focus to Selene, sensing her rising tension. “Selene, while Thalia freezes time, you need to paralyze Zariel and the witch. Keep their minds occupied long enough for us to act.” Selene’s voice trembles slightly as she speaks, fear creeping in. “What if I can’t hold them? What if it backfires?” Layton places a firm hand on her shoulder, grounding her. “Remember, you’re not trying to overpower them. You’re just flicking off their minds for a moment. Imagine you’re casting a shadow over Zariel’s thoughts, pushing his mind into darkness.” Thalia steps in, nodding. “Exactly. His mind is a web—just touch it lightly, enough to freeze it. Focus on his eyes. Once you’ve locked in, let your power flow.” Selene takes a deep breath, absorbing their guidance. She closes her eyes and focuses on her breathing, steadying her nerves. “I’ll focus on his eyes.” Thalia whispers calmly, “Inhale… hold it… now exhale slowly. You’ve got this.” With renewed determination, Selene opens her eyes, feeling the familiar warmth of her sisters’ presence as she prepares for what’s to come. The Battle Unfolds As they step into the chamber, the heavy, malevolent energy is nearly suffocating. The sight of their parents chained to the stone walls spikes their adrenaline, a burning need to save them overtaking any fear. Thalia raises her hand, her magic crackling in the air, and with a swift motion, everything freezes. The demons are locked in place, caught in the eerie stillness of Thalia’s time manipulation. Thalia: “Amara, now! Throw the fire potions!” Amara, her pulse racing, throws the vials with precision. They shatter on impact, and the surrounding demons are instantly engulfed in flames, their forms dissolving into ash. Amara closes her eyes, focusing deeply on the chains binding her father. She feels their resistance but pushes past her limits, summoning all her strength to break them. Meanwhile, Selene zeros in on Zariel and the dark witch. Her eyes narrow, her power beginning to build. Selene: “I won’t let you harm them!” she shouts, as a surge of magic extends from her mind and shoots toward Zariel like invisible tendrils. For a moment, Zariel’s laughter dies in his throat as his eyes glaze over, his movements slowing to a halt. The dark witch, caught in Selene’s grip, struggles in vain, her body stiffening as the paralyzing magic takes hold. Zariel (voice strained): “You think… this… will stop me?” Selene grits her teeth, pouring more energy into the spell, feeling the weight of Zariel’s mind pushing back. For an instant, everything seems to be going according to plan. Zariel stands frozen, his power dormant. But the momentary triumph shatters as a low growl escapes his throat. Suddenly, Zariel’s fingers twitch, and a ripple of dark energy pulses through the chamber. Selene gasps, feeling the force of his magic slam into her mind like a tidal wave. Her concentration falters, her grip on his mind slipping as Zariel begins to push her out. Zariel: “You dare to invade my mind? Foolish little witch…” His mental barriers rise, thick and impenetrable, like a fortress of black smoke. He begins to force Selene’s magic back toward her, flooding her senses with cold, dark energy. Selene winces, her knees buckling slightly as she fights to keep control. Beads of sweat form on her brow, and her breathing grows labored...
