Lily stared at her locker, her head throbbing slightly. The memories of her father's face as he spoke of whet had happened at the meeting made her angry all over again. She hated what he had done, hated that he had given away his own daughter. Violet was out there, among those animals, all alone and there was nothing she could do to bring her back. Everyone was saying that it was duty but, to Lily, it was madness, the kind of madness that she wanted nothing to do with. She already lost her mother. There was no way that she would lose her sister as well. The only guarantee of Violet's safety was the son of some werewolf that had even started going to her school. She hated him, and she knew that she had never seen him before, but he was a werewolf and nothing good could come out of him. "Hey Lily," she heard someone say beside her then she turned to see the brown eyes, wide smile and copper skin of her best friend, Rachel. "What's the matter? Are you okay? Oh my god. Have you been crying?" She asked as she reached and touched Lily's eyes. Lily shook her head. "Uh, no. No I have not, actually. We have to go, we'll be late for biology," she said, but she knew that Rachel would not let the matter sleep. She saw him sitting on one of the benches, staring into space. He was strange. She immediately got the feeling that he was different. It was in the way that he sat perfectly still, like he had utter control over every muscle in his body. It was like the way Violet sat but much better. She even imagined that if she looked hard, she would not see the breeze moving his hair even a little. She walked to him, anger raging in her but when she remembered who it was that she was walking up to, her steps slowed. He turned to look directly at her, and she was startled by how…normal he looked. Violet already told her they looked normal, but she expected something like longer than average teeth or wolf eyes, but he had simple brown eyes that were a bit too invasive, and his nose was straight and long with thin lips and a cleft jaw. His skin was dark like he spent too much time in the sun and when he acknowledged her presence, he looked away. She stepped closer to him, growing more frightened with each step, but her anger far outweighed her fear and she was soon standing next to where he was sitting. "My name is Lily, and I am Violet's sister. You know? The girl your people took hostage?" She asked. He shut his eyes and sighed deeply in a manner that told her clearly that she was a disturbance. She almost felt the urge to reach out and slap him but then again he might just bite off her hand at the wrist. She did not know exactly what he could do and what she could expect. "Lily," he said. She waited for him to say more, but that was all he said. "You people are savages and brutes. You deserve the worst that comes to you," she said. He sighed again then leaned back and shut his eyes. "Hmm," was all he said. She stared at the way he leaned back, perfectly still, even his breathing did not seem to disturb his movements much. She turned away and left. Furthermore, she saw Rachel walking up to her "Who is that? He seemed to be new," Rachel asked as she came closer to Lily. "He's just…no one," Lily snapped through gritted teeth. "If he was no one then you would not be all twisted into knots. Did he say anything to you?" She asked. Lily shook her head. "He did not say anything to me," Lily said, and they continued walking. ****** Alfred was almost overwhelmed by everything, the manner in which the students did everything and the way that they acted. They were so calm, so nonchalant. They spoke freely and laughed, wearing their emotions on their sleeves. He wondered how they were able to survive, who was the strongest among them? How they could just sit around and do nothing which was technically what he was doing that made him feel extremely guilty. Another thing that made him feel guilty was the way he handled the matter with the girl who called herself Lily. Head been mildly offended by the way she insulted his people but then again, that was what she knew, that was what she was taught as was he. She was like a tantrum throwing child, and he felt like he needed to speak to her. He found her in the hallway as she was walking to a red door. School was over for the day, and he knew he should be back home or risk Michael's wrath, but he had to speak to her. "Hello," he called out, and she turned, glared at him then walked in and slammed the door. He paused then gritted his teeth and walked away. What did he expect? She was like a child. ****** "So, how was school today?" Julius asked her as he came to sit beside her, carrying a cup of hot chocolate in his hand. She knew that he always made this as an apology, but she was too angry to care. She knew he did what he felt was right, but she hated that he was ever in that position to choose between his daughter and the clan. "I saw him," she said. Julius was quiet for a while then nodded. "Yeah. He will be with us for a little while. Do not worry about it. Soon, this will all be over, and we can get back to our lives as it was, yeah? Your sister will be here, and it will be fine," he said. She shook her head. "You gave her away! You gave her to them like she was some…object. Did she tell you that she wanted to go?" She asked him, hearing her voice start to break again. Julius inhaled deeply. "She was doing her duty as I was doing mine. It was either her or the safety and future of the clan. If I had refused, there were chances that the others might have seen my priorities there, and it would not bid well for me. Also, there was no telling what the werewolves would have done. They are unpredictable sometimes," he said. She was silent for a while and her anger simmered. "The clan can go to hell! I want my sister," she said. Julius' face went hard for a while, but he spoke softly. "What I did, I did for the good of the clan. This clan consists of and protects your friends and your teachers and your music classes and of a war broke out, it would have sucked them all in and there was a good chance that many of us would have died there. To refuse the werewolves' request would have been the pinnacle of selfishness. Do you see?" He said to her. Lily tried to say something then realized she had already angered him then she shook her head and nodded. "I…okay," she said. She withdrew into herself, angry at him. He watched her for a while then shook his head and stood. "Don't stay up too long," he said quietly and walked away, leaving her to stay in the darkness.
