Chapter Five

946 Words
The Saturday had nothing extraordinary. Everything was all fun. When dark was fast approaching, it was time to head back home. Hellen was a little glum. Her sister Charity did not come. Perhaps she was at the river bank, she assumed. Also, Mike was absent. It was time to leave. John, Hellen, and Oliver left, chatting on their way home. They passed Charity's usual place at the bank but missed her. When they reached a junction, Hellen and John needed to make their way home, but Hellen declined to take it. Oliver tried persuading her, but the answer was apparent. John felt useless. He had to go alone. Oliver needed to go further up before taking a route to their place. He had thought of passing through Mike's place to check on him. But that was now in doubt. He would need to cover a few more miles to achieve that after dropping Hellen. He took a longer route that would easily let him drop Hellen before heading home. It was a long walk. Sometimes, Hellen and Charity would use horses. However, they only came with them if they would take a short time. Oliver cared for his sister. He did not mind the long distances. He did not notice anything unusual the whole time they were with her. But after he dropped her at their gate, he saw Hellen holding way longer. She breathed heavily close to his ears when they hugged. It produced an uneasiness in her facial expression. He was still unaware of the nature of the situation. She moved closer to him and held him tighter. She pressed her chest against him, causing Oliver's male hormones to rise. He had never felt that urge. But that was her sister. She looked like she had let herself lose to him. An unspoken command of 'you can do what you want with me.' She tried to say something to him, but an unknown force could not open her lips. Even Oliver sensed she wanted to speak. A few minutes passed by. Oliver had to find courage. If he failed to, they would stay interlocked in each other's arms for hours. She was resting her head on Oliver's left shoulder. He took his right hand from her waist, held her head, and brought it to his face. They were staring at each other. Hellen's lips were wet, and her eyes half closed as if a beam of light was shown on them. The ecstatic moment dazzled her face, giving her a gorgeous look. Even Oliver felt weak. She captivated his mind for a split second. What does she want? Oliver thought to himself. Hellen presumed that was the moment. Oliver would kiss her, but that was only in her imagination. Oliver finally opened his mouth and uttered: "Are you okay?" She did not open her mouth yet. She nodded, implying she was okay after staring at Oliver for five seconds. "I need to go then," Oliver added while trying to release his hands off her. She did not release hers, though. Still, she did not want to let him go. Oliver felt all the strands of the hair on his body stand straight. His skin tightened, responding to the environment. He did not know what to say next. He wanted to ask her if she was in love with him. But he was afraid he might have misinterpreted the situation. "Hellen, are you okay?" He asked again, but now he was adding emphasis on his concern. "Yes." "Hurrah. At last!" Oliver was relieved, but he mumbled. Hellen did not hear it. "I need to go. We have been here for a long time. Someone will misunderstand us if we are seen." Hellen did not care. How was Oliver unaware that his worry was the least of her problems? She attempted to open her mouth and declare her undying love for him one last time, but she could not. "Okay." She acquiesced as she let her grip on Oliver off. At once, she developed mixed feelings. She could not speak. That was the man she wanted in front of her, but she could not say it. Hellen turned to leave at once without saying any more words. "Say Hi to Charity." Oliver threw a request behind her. She did not turn to look. Neither did she respond. She opened the gate and went in, while Oliver stared at the semi-dark gate. The streets were not so well lit up. He would need to walk by himself. Maybe the motivation to visit Mike died away. When Hellen reached home, she went straight to her bedroom. The mother was in the kitchen. Charity was on the balcony. She was worried her sister was late. Perhaps alone on her way from the Sauna Center. She could have gone to accompany her on her way back. Charity quickly followed her to her room. She was taken aback by what she saw. Her sister was in love. Suffering all alone. The young girl was immersed in a scary world of love. It all lit in her face. She could not deny it. Hellen lay on the bed with her head facing the roof. She held her phone and a pillow on her chest to support her phone. "How did she go?" "I did not tell him." Charity how miserable her sister appeared. She did not dare ask her any questions. Charity knew asking more questions would only irritate her sister. She moved closer and sat on a chair near the bed. She reached out to Hellen's left hand and pressed it gently against her thighs. The two sisters did not talk.
