The cold water did wonders running down my face. I wish I could hide here but I have a job to do. I grabbed a towel and stepped out into my large room to grab clothes.

“Lovely girl, isn’t she?” My mother’s voice rang out.

“Mother” I shout “I’m…”

“In a towel Caleb and I do not know why you choose to do so many mundane things the human way.” She waves her hand, and I am clothed.

“Mother, why am I wear roman robes?” I ground through my teeth.

“Fine fine” She waves her hand again and black jeans appear along with a blue t shirt. Alex my great great several greats’ nephews would bring me things like this here from his world and we have since been able to recreate them here in this realm by means of magic. They are very comfortable, and I prefer them.

“What are you doing here? You already sent you message about Lyonisis even though you could have just popped in obviously.”

“No, I sent your mate, and I did so because she is involved through her family and as such is our best chance at helping Cassandra’s new life get her powers and have a happily ever after this time. However, my son, you are stubborn. Apollo reached out to me concerned you would reject your mate. I am hoping that my son is not that dumb or disrespectful.”

She sat on the edge of my bed.

“Dumb, that’s rich coming from you mother. You have had your fair share of mistakes example Lyonisis. One could even argue I am one. Your husband only wants to wreak havoc on your children and the rest of the moon creations for your affair with my father.” I growl.

“Caleb” She remained calm, but her eyes were wet with unshed tears. Now I feel bad, “You and your sister were not mistakes. The only mistake was that your father should be ruling the moon by my side. People or beings like Lyonisis are a byproduct of mistakes by your grandfather but that isn’t important. He is not the only one after you and the others. HE is jealous because he cannot have me yes, but he has help. I had decided to leave it to you all but after finding out I am not sure I can.” I could tell she was troubled. I have never seen her so upset.

“Mom what is it? What changed?”

“When I created mates, I wanted to give your father what I wasn’t allowed to. I wanted to repay everyone for what they lost, give them a new cause and compensations I guess because of what my father and Lyonisis had been doing. Ember was a beauty, she had a good heart, and she cared for you, and Cass like I would have. I could not have chosen a better mate for my love. She clung to your father loving him like I would have. She had two children so that gave her experience and your dad loved them, he had always wanted a large family. Their father was nonexistent, so they needed one. It was perfect. I couldn’t see who the biological father was had I known I never would have paired them. I didn’t see the evil lurking in the shadows or the strings of hate that bound her later in life. Before she found out about you, she was the perfect mate and mother. As you grew, I didn’t see those decisions, they were blocked from me somehow and now I know how. I am so sorry my son.” She wiped the tears away.

“Mother, who was Valkyrie and Andrew’s father?”

“There was reason why you and Andrew were so evenly matched. The rumor was true Hades!”

“Hades!!!” I choked, “God of the underworld Hades” She nodded, “But he’s our uncle that makes his son Anderw but Cass...” She stopped me.

“No, not really” She took a deep breath and began to pace, “There are many Gods and Goddess’s son and just like you were raised by a stepmother, Zeus was my stepfather, no one knew but I rule the night because my father was a titan. When Zeus defeated them, the war was over. My mother married Zeus. He eventually found out about me and that is what started the stories of infidelity and womanizing and such a lot of it was folklore. However, some of them were true my parents had a lot of issues, my mother would raise his children, and he would raise hers, Oracles would predict a child, and they would do what was necessary to create that. It’s a long story. The main thing is though that technically Hades isn’t your blood, nor would his son be related to Casandra. However, it gave him one hell of a vendetta. He believes he should rule the moon not the underworld. HE also believes his children should rule the realms. I cannot be sure of specifics, but I am certain he is cahoots with Lyonisis and they have big plans. It will take you and Andrews reincarnate Cassandras reincarnate alongside your mate to fix all this mess. I know it isn’t fair. Jesse Owlfeather is a very smart cunning young woman she will complete you, Caleb, give her a chance. Do not fret over age and stuff son I wouldn’t give you someone as special as Jesse without blessing her. Once you complete the bond your souls and gifts will be shared. However not to be taken lightly if you perish, she will also. Likewise, if she were so will you. She will be as indestructible as you are. Give her a chance for yourself but also for her. She deserved a mate that can handle her and love her more than the moon. I couldn’t think of a better mate for her than my son.” She touches my cheek and fades away….

“Mother” I grumble, “Apollo.”

“Yes”

“You know calling mother was low blow.”

“No, it wasn’t Caleb. I want my mate. I need my mate” He wines, “You may be okay alone, but I am not.”

“She doesn’t have a wolf” I reminded him,

“Maybe not but maybe. You heard mother she may have more secrets than you know. Do not count mate out so fast Caleb. I can sense her power can’t you.”

“So, what you think she will mess with you.”

“Don’t be weird human, or I will take over and go get our mate. You forget I take over your body too” He gave me a wolfish grin.

Before I could say something back to wipe that smirk off his face, “Knock Knock” was called our slinging the door wide open.

“Come on in, looks like you are anyway.” I deadpan.

He fainnes dramatically, “You cut me.”

“Really Drake cut it out,” He laughs and flops down on the couch.

“Look I don’t really get what’s going on man. I am your beta I kind of need to know what is happening. Do you know how bad it makes me look to hear rumors from the Fae Guard and I have no clue how to shut them down? Our own pack is asking questions that I don’t have the answers to either. You kicked me out after that girl made claims to be your mate. I told everyone that must not be true, and she must be delusional because you would be delighted by finding your mate.”

“You are complaining about rumors?” I ask incredulously trying to keep apollo from growling.

“Dude, I am your best friend. Since you met with your mother’s guard a few months ago you have been off. You are not acting like yourself. This Fae guard seems to think their princess is our Luna” He laughed “Ridiculous right you have never been a fan of the Fae. I reasoned with them and told them you had her put in the Luna suite because it was room fit for a princess.”

I had to take a few calming breaths “Drake” Apollo was furious of his disrespect toward Jesse. He wasn’t though and I knew he was right I had never been a big Fae supporter. “I may not have been the Fae’s biggest fan Drake, but the Guard is correct the Elven Fae Princess is my fated Mate.” I sit down across from him on the recliner defeated.

“So, we have a Luna and the beta is the last to know.” He looked hurt for real this time.

“Man, I didn’t’ mean to leave you out or the pack out. I haven’t decided to fully acknowledge the mate bond yet.”

He raised his head “What” He yelled “We have waited for centuries Caleb for our Luna thousands of years why in Hell would you not accept her?”

Apollo, who has never abided by anyone disrespecting us was suddenly silent, “Apollo” I questioned “Oh no you need hear his piece Jesse is our Luna and our pack will side with me about the issue.” He curled up and laid down in the corner of my mind but listened intently. “Drake, its complicated

“Complicated” He stood up “No disrespect Caleb. Have you noticed no one in Embermoon has found a fated mare in over a thousand years? Maybe more? We age slower or some like us we don’t at all, but we were beginning to think that while we had blessed with longer lives and peace here for the most part that we too had been cursed to be mate less. Chosen mates is all we get. The only children born have been by us choosing mates and getting the fairy healers potions some families never have children, so they adopt Fae orphans.”

He got me thinking I can’t recall a single fated mate pair since Cassandra’s death. “You still don’t understand.”

“You are damned right I don’t. We have always preached the goddess rules. We have tried to keep mating sacred and only ask for acceptance because it had only been so long since no one had found their fated mate. All the elders in the pack pleaded for a chosen Luna forever. you said you would only take your fated mate as your Luna now she is here, and you want to what reject her???” He was pulling his hair out; I had never seen Drake so bent out of shape. “You are damned right I do not understand. Our pack will not understand either.”

“She is not only Fae royalty. She is also a witch historian from the other realm. She is descendant of Valkyrie, my stepsister. I know that we are not blood related before you say anything so that doesn’t matter. But think about it Drake, in mind at the time I found her, how old I am? She will grow old and die eventually, and I will remain. She would’ve grown to resent me even if her life is longer due to her Fae blood. Longer isn’t always like me.”

“That Is a bull s**t excuse “he huffed.

“I know that now, I have some more information on that aspect now and is no longer a factor, but Valkyries biological father is a big problem,”

He squinted his eyes, “You sir are reaching.”

“No, I am not” I cleared my throat. “I just found out that my darling mate is descended from Valkyrie’s and her biological father is Hades the rumor was true. Also, that Zeus isn’t my real grandfather I am descended from a titan and the queen of the Gods. IT is why I am so much bigger than my Andrew and Why I was to be the Lycan king.”

“Wow, that is not what I thought you were going to say,” he says back down staring at me like I had three heads. “Either way she is our true Luna Caleb you cannot cast her away.”

“It’s a choice for later Beta, Jesse and I have decided to get to know each other while solving the problems at hand to protect all our peoples. We will decide our fate then when the threat of war is over. However, I am not inclined to reject her, it would be too dangerous for her. Unless she wants me to.”

“Oh, is that how that is going to work?” he chuckled getting Apollos attention “The mate bond doesn’t work like that my friend. I have never experienced it, but I have read about it. They say the more time you spend with each other the more inseparable you become because your souls recognize its other half. She will consume your ever thought. You won’t be able to not be near her or touch her; also, there is her heat too. I am sure the Fae have version of heat like we do. A female’s heat is unavoidable and the more powerful the being like say an Alpha and a princess the harder and stronger the heat will be.”

The thought of Jesse under me screaming my name and begging me, came to mind, “How do you know all this?” I ask incredulously.

“Over a few thousand years ago or so I began to long companionship, not that your lovely demeanor wasn’t enough to get me all hot and bothered.” He wiggled his eyes bows.

“Drake” I growled.

“Oh, calm down boss man I’m just playing. I began to research mates and traditions. I wanted to be prepared in case one of us found our mate. After one of my sisters took a chosen, I began to question why our people hadn’t found a fated mate. I thought maybe we just didn’t know what to look for and we had been missing the signs. I went to the library, and you have like a ton of books, did you know?” He stood, “I learned a lot after so much information my beta senses kicked in and I had to learn more about everything I could. I don’t think there are many books I haven’t read. You gotta quit being so paranoid man. Our people will be lifted by the news of not just a Luna but the fact she is the true Luna, a fated mate to our Alpha. They will see it as a gateway. Think about it Caleb, maybe when you mate and mark her this will help us. whatever curse or misfortune has hit us will change or is changing. I might even be able to find my mate. Caleb, she is all I want. I can’t stand around here and watch you turn you back on something everyone in our kingdom especially me is longing for.”

“Caleb,” “Yes Apollo,” Can we go find mate now even if it is to go to library. I miss mate.”

The pull of the mate bond had already begun…
