Kira’s POV
My breath caught in my throat. My heart slammed so hard against my ribs it almost hurt. Wasn’t he supposed to be at the vampire territory? Wasn’t he supposed to be far away?
“How… how are you back already?” I asked before I could stop myself.
He didn’t answer that. Instead, his brows furrowed, his eyes narrowing as he stepped closer, slow, deliberate, dangerous. Each step pushed deeper into my space, like he was testing how far he could go before I broke.
“This,” he said, his voice low, controlled, “is not the first time.”
He stopped just a few steps away from me, his gaze sweeping over my face, then the toilet, then back to me again.
“Days ago,” he continued, “you vomited on me.”
I said nothing because there was nothing to say. No lies came, no excuses formed, just silence and his eyes sharpened at that.
“Kira.” The way he said my name, it wasn’t soft. It wasn’t patient, it was a warning.
I forced myself to stand up, gripping the sink for support. My legs still felt weak, but I refused to look weak in front of him.
“I said I’m fine,” I muttered.
“You don’t look fine.”
“I’m just sick.”
“That is not how Lycans get sick.”
His voice was cutting now with a sharp controlled anger. "I don't know what happened between you and the doctor or what I'm not supposed to know but this is not how Lycans get sick."
I wiped my face quickly, avoiding his eyes, “I need a minute,” I said, my voice tight. “Can you… leave? Don't evade my spaces like these."
He didn’t move, not even a little neither was he threatened by what I said.
My heart started racing again, “I said I need a minute, Malakai.”
Still nothing until he slowly stepped back, “I’ll be outside,” he said. “Don’t take too long.” Then he turned and walked out.
I didn’t move until I heard the door click shut. Only then did I release the breath I didn’t know I was holding. My hands were shaking again.
I quickly turned on the sink and splashed water on my face, over and over, like I could wash away everything. Wash away the fear, the secret, the truth but it didn't work. Nothing was going to fix this except running. The thought came suddenly and I froze for a second to think about it.
Running…My eyes slowly lifted to meet my reflection. My face was pale, my eyes...not normal and something was changing about me, something I can't stop or chase and if stayed here for a while again, they would find out.
My father, Malakai, everyone! And when they do, I will be so dead. I should just text Belle...no, I changed my mind on a second thought. I don't want to get her involved in this when it could cost her life.
My hand slowly dropped to my stomach again.
“I have to go…” I whispered. The decision settled in my chest like stone.
I dried my face quickly and forced my expression back into something controlled before walking out of the bathroom.
Malakai was sitting comfortably on the armchair in my room like he belonged there. One leg crossed over the other.
His eyes lifted the moment I stepped out, “Feeling better?” he asked.
I nodded slightly, “Yes.” I lied and he studied me for a second, then leaned back.
“What did the doctor give you?” he asked.
My mind moved fast, “Medication,” I said. “Strong ones.”
He raised a brow, “Strong enough to make you throw up like that?”
I shrugged slightly, walking past him, “They said it might have side effects. Nausea… dizziness…”
He watched me closely, “You didn’t mention that earlier.”
“I didn’t think it would be this bad,” I replied quickly. “I thought I could handle it.”
“I see.”
I exhaled slowly, I think that worked at least… for now. “I’m sorry,” I added, softer this time. “About the other day.”
His eyes flicked to mine.
“When I… threw up on you.”
His lips twitched slightly—not quite a smile, “You ruined a very expensive pair of shoes.”
“I’ll replace them.”
“You can’t.”
“Why?”
“They were custom made.”
I sighed, “Then I’ll find a way.”
That seemed to amuse him. He leaned back further, more relaxed now.
“You look terrible,” he said bluntly.
“Thank you.”
“It’s not an insult. It’s an observation.”
I rolled my eyes slightly and sat on the edge of my bed.
“Why are you back so early?” I asked, trying to sound casual.
That caught his attention, his expression shifted to something darker. He was clearly very irritated, “My meeting ended,” he said.
“That quickly?”
“It would have gone longer,” he added, his voice tightening, “if not for the arrogant bastard I had to deal with.”
“Who?”
He scoffed, “The vampire crown prince. The one called Cessian. I heard his brother died so sudden after his own father killed him and then, he suddenly became the crown prince."
My blood ran cold. My fingers curled slightly into the sheets. I couldn't think or show any shock or surprise on my face.
He kept talking.
“He’s exactly what you’d expect,” Malakai said. “Arrogant. Disrespectful. Full of himself.”
I said nothing, I still couldn't but my mind was spiralling. Cessian was a crown prince!! Oh Dear, oh no.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Malakai said suddenly.
I blinked, “Just tired.”
He didn’t push. Instead, he leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on his knees.
“He thinks he’s better than everyone,” he continued. “The way he talks… the way he looks at wolves… He nearly lost his head today,” Malakai added casually.
My heart jumped, “What?”
Malakai smirked slightly, “If Cullen hadn’t stepped in, I would’ve cut it off myself.”
I swallowed hard, “You tried to fight him?”
