Chapter One - The new Alpha

2276 Words
She woke up much earlier than usual. It was her first day at work. She remembered how she lost her first job ever. Mona clumsily walked out of the bed into the shower. Though it was too early to go to work, she had to prepare while she waited for time. She saw thick flashes in her mind and then there was his image yelling at her. She had resented her former employer more than anything else. His pomposity made most of her colleagues detest him back then, maybe still now. She turned on the shower and allowed the warm water caress her naked body. Then she saw it again, he was firing her this time. Mona first worked in a printing press, she loved her work beyond all limits and brought most of the news. Though it wasn't her core profession, she wanted a work that would give her some space to attend to some other things. Despite the critical position she occupies in the company and all of her efforts, her boss seemed to detest and criticize all her efforts. That was when she remembered what the case was about, Mona had refused to accept the dating proposal from her boss. It had infuriated him and got him rebuffing her and counting her efforts inefficient. Mona simply had to quit to ease herself of the pressures and intimidations. Then there it was, she got the position of a creative director in one of the most prestigious companies working for the highest bank in Mugeen, her home country. Mona is tall and slenderly built with standing breasts and curvy hips. She looked like the scorching sun had never devoured her skin, an almost white skin. She had wondered where she inherited her sea blue eyes and straight brown hair, perfect combination. Her family were mostly black hair and a little golden. All men she came across wanted to date her or engage in a serious relationship with her which she considered frivolous because none of those seemed to matter to her. As she allowed the warm water find its way around her body lost in thoughts, she came back to consciousness when she remembered it was her first day at work. The interview was actually stress free, her qualifications spoke mostly for her, maybe her body features did a little work for her as well. Without much thoughts, she walked out of the shower still naked. She didn't have to cook, she would take some snacks instead. She picked her towel from the bedroom closet to clean herself dry, she had a dryer dry her hair. She had to take enough time to prepare for work. She smiled when she stared at her suit laid on the bed. She lay back to the bed, it was still 3am. Goodness, time was too slow today, when she was working for the printing press, she would sleep early and wake up unusually late. Time showed her no mercy. Slowly she slept off the second time. Given the nature of her new job, she would need to spend extra time at the office organising and analyzing capital investment projects for the bank. She had scheduled her activities for the month, it will be quite stressing because she will be fighting to prove her efficiency at work. ____ The room Mona had walked into was uncanny. Bright flickers of candle light and the alpha sign of a star loomed in the room. The room was larger than her normal conference room. She gasped and turned to her back where she had heard a blurry laughter. Where was she? The candle lights blew off following the onrush of wind into the room, she shook with fright. "What do you think about all of these?" A voice spoke from behind her as the candle lights were rekindled. Mona gasped as she turned to the direction of the voice, Pina was the last she had expected in the room. "I never knew our new alpha would be so easily frightened by anything" Pina scoffed as she walked to the seat by the candle stand. "Listen Pina, I know how you feel about all of these but I never asked for any of it, I didn't..." "Oh cut if off Mona, I know how high you feel about yourself now" Pina stood and made a mocking gesture, while she continued "Gaining the position of an alpha from the Triad barely few months after becoming a York member..." "There are virtues a commoner should possess to gain the position of an alpha, the Triad must have found that in me..." "We have spent not less than fifty years in the clan and yet you are only two months into the clan to have become an alpha over us? What do you know about York clan activities?" Pina yelled this time. Slowly she breathed in heavily and smiled, "the Triad must have become partial, favouritism now dwells amongst us" "Pina, I never wanted any of this. It just came..." "Oh yes Mona!" Pina laughed, "I love the pretence scene" Pina sat back on the chair crossing her legs."The Satra clan still wants their independence even without an alpha yet. As the alpha of the strongest clan, what shall we do?" "We will consult the Triad..." "I knew it!" Pina laughed again. "Triad baby! You don't even know the powers you've acquired as an alpha. How do we move?" "The Triad makes no mistakes..." Pina's face tightened as she stood and walked closer to Mona, staring directly into her face. The light from the candle unveiled her face which has been veiled by the dark corners. She was prettier than Mona and looked sexy in her red sulky gown. Her lip in perfect shape with a heavy touch of red lipstick. Her eyes were dark and threatening. She was the sexiest thing Mona had ever set her eyes on. Being the oldest member of the York clan, many people believed she would be the next alpha after the death of Sequina, the first alpha. Pina was a disciple of Sequina who was murdered by the Satra alpha after an attack. Pina carried herself around giving orders to show her soon coming superiority. No one dared question her orders as she was the strongest in the clan. As she stared deeply into Mona's searching eyes, she scoffed. "When you end up getting your butt kicked by the Satra alpha, the Triad would get to have a rethink. Mark my words" The pressure tightened, Mona clenched her fists and stared directly into Pina's intimidating eyes, she had the look of murder in her eyes. "We would get to see just how you face the rebels from the Satra clan..." Mona woke up sweating, she would need to take another shower. Pina was the last person she'd expected in her dreams. Brushing through her hair that was already in a mess, she sighed. She wouldn't want to think about the clans now, it was her first day at work. She checked her cellphone, it was 6am. She stretched and walked back to the shower, this time around she would be fast. The taxi dropped her in front of a skyscraper. Walking out of the car, she exhaled and walked into the building. She greeted the desk clerk and turned to the man by the desk who had greeted as well. "Are you new here?" The man asked. "Yes I just resumed work today" "Alright, welcome to capital project company. Pardon my manners, am Daren" Daren extended his right hand to her. Mona took it in hers, "Mona" she smiled at him. He wasn't bad, he was six feet tall. Though he had a suit on, his muscular frame was highly detectable. Except for the suit, he looked like a teen ready for a date because of his teen beardless face. His hair was curvy black matching his smoky brown eyes. Though he looked muscular like he had been visiting the gym, his complexion was bright and flawless. Mona stared down to his fingers, finely shaped and straight. "We will be having our first meeting for the year at the conference room in floor sixty nine at 11am" "Am I amongst the executives?" Mona asked. She had thought meetings at the conference room was for the company's executives. "This particular meeting is for everyone" Daren unhitched his hand from hers. It was as though he was unaware he was still holding her hand. He smiled at her as he continued, "You will find a document at your desk once you get to your office. Go through it and make analysis of the document which you would present to the board at the meeting. Your first assignment in the company, you know what that means?" "Oh sure, fail and fail out. Win and gain the favour of the board. I get it" Daren laughed, "I'm happy you know, I wish you best of lucks" "Thank you" Mona smiled as she made for the elevator. Clutching her bag tightly, she walked into the elevator. It was empty, she was the only passenger. It was much comfortable being alone as she felt the elevator move. Then she felt the thick flashes again, the throbbing in her forehead began all over again. Her head ached from the images she saw in her mind. ____ There were males and females on the ground in their own thick blood. The spike had pierced through their chests sending them through a wave of doom. Their wings were broken from what seemed like a battle struggle. Then she realized it was the wing clan scattered all over the field. The wing clan was the largest clan in the Triad with lesser powers. Their alphas possessed pin like wings for piercing and tearing. She spit at the sight of fresh blood from one of the bodies on the floor, then she saw it move. Mona gasped as she rushed to the body. If the body still had life in it, she swore to see its revitalization. She would cross all limits to save the last of the wing clan. She held the hands of the female petite on the floor. The soon to die girl was too young for battles like that. Why did the Triad suddenly change to making young people the alphas instead of the ancients? The body whimpered in an attempt to talk. Mona was concerned. "What do you want to say to me?" Mona thought in her mind. Speaking to the body through her mind was the safest and fastest way to communicate with the half dead clan member. She had to stare into her dark eyes to make sure she hasn't slipped into oblivion. "Alphas..." "Alphas?" Mona thought deeply. She shuddered when she counted the corpse in the field, they were only four bodies. These were the alphas of the wing clan murdered within a month. She didn't need to ask questions about it as she stared back to the corpse. They had the alpha sign, each of them. The body under her was the last wing alpha. She was the only alpha that had dared the Satra alpha by piercing his chest with her wings. The Satra alpha had pierced the stake through her after grabbing her wings and tearing them apart. The Satra alpha didn't die at once, he made sure the last wing alpha had sustained incurable injuries from him before he slipped away. "Where are the other wing clan members?" Mona thought to the body. She was looking around for shadows of the wing clan members but none were present. When she realized her last question was left unanswered, she turned to the body. Her eyes were open but her breath was silent. "Come off it Mona! Its your first day at work" Mona said to herself as she shook back to consciousness to realize the elevator had stopped moving. There was power disruption in the whole company, it was quite unusual. She strained her ears to listen what discussions were going on in the whole offices of the building. This was the only power she had succeeded in mastering, listening to conversations from far distances. She heard one familiar voice in an almost empty room, she assumed it was the conference room. He was speaking on her behalf. "She is new here. You have to do something to help her out of the elevator" "The team has gone to fix the generators. You need not to worry. The meeting is in four hours time. No one is missing it" Mona stepped further to know if she could catch a glimpse of the floor she was still at. No doubt, the range would be around forty two to fifty. She sighed, there was no time to waste. She still had to go through the document Daren had kept on her new table before the meeting where she would give her first presentation. Waiting for the generators or elevator to be fixed would eat not less than an hour of her precious time. She took in a large breath and shut her eyes as she disappeared from the elevator. She walked through the passage in her invisible state. She wouldn't just appear in the passage where she had seen the company workers. No one deserved to know any of her powers. She stood beside the wall waiting patiently until the long row of workers dispersed, then she reappeared and realized she was in floor fifty. Her office was the last on the row. She walked towards the door and walked in.
