Lowering the screen of the car, Nelly in greater astonishment spoke out “ Antony?”
“What are you doing here in this state, what happened, where's your grandmother, are you doing okay?”
Antony mounting questions one on another, his heart melting in concern to see Nelly in that condition.
“Uuh, you are asking a lot of questions. How do you expect me to respond in this state and at this time? Can't you see I'm out of strength?”
Nelly asked bitterly tears glistening in her eyes
“Oh sorry my dear please hup in and let me get you home. Don't say “no” cause I know you have that in mind. Or do you really need some help?” Antony replied as he opened the door stepping down to assist Nelly.
“No, it's fine, I can do this” She replied, picking up her bag and shoes on the ground. She walked towards the car and got in.
“I really don't have a choice now, do I? Please just take me home thank you.” Nelly replied as she closed the door.
There was silence for a while then suddenly
F“Someone hurt you I guess?” Antony spoke out softly.
But you know what aches me about all these is the fact that you wouldn't let me into your life. If I was your boyfriend I wouldn't let a fly hurt you”
He continued as his voice became deeper expressing anger.
“Nelly you know I'm capable of taking care of you, I can make you happy for the rest of your life. What's wrong with giving me a chance? Why is it difficult? “
“Can I have a break so I can breathe normally?”
Nelly burst out. Rage boiled within her as she looked at Antony who had his eyes focused on the road ahead of them.
Do you think that is what I need now? I'm broken, can’t you see? Please just say nothing till we get home, can you do me that favour?
“I think I have cried enough today. My mind might soon blow off, please bear with me.” Nelly said, this time her voice almost below her breath. Then she leaned backwards and faced the door.
“I wonder what's wrong with her, I wish she could just lean on me now and tell me everything cause I know I can help.”
“Perhaps she'll speak out when we get Home.
I'll just have to be silent till then”
Antony thought as he kept staring at Nelly.
A few moments after they got to Nelly's residence.
“We are here,” Antony said with a smile.
“So you're letting me assist you into the house right?” He raised a question.
“No, it's fine I can go by myself and thank you so much for bringing me home,” Nelly said as she stepped out of the car, shutting the door behind her.
“Hey, take care of yourself okay? Please call me when you need me” Antony screamed to Nelly's hearing who was already close to the door.
“I won't need you”, she responded beneath her breath, not even looking back.
Opening the door the house was death silent causing her countenance to change in wonder at what was going on.
“Granny? Granny? Is anyone home?” she called as her heart started to beat fast.” Where could she be? I asked Milla to come over. Why is the door open and no one around?”
Nelly thought, her face falling as she searched the rooms. A few minutes after tears started flowing down her cheeks.
Isn't it enough already? I have taken it to the full already. What's wrong? She fell to the ground in depression dialling Milla’s contact several times and receiving no reply.
Nelly?
Nelly shook as she turned to see who had called her name.
Antony?. did I not ask you to go, what are you doing here? She asked as she cleaned her tears quickly and stood to her feet.
I couldn't just go without finding out what was wrong with you. And you are here crying on your own.
Please, what is going on? He asked as he moved close to her.
“Look you have to leave now, I can fix it, please. Just go!!” she said as she folded her arms, turning away from him.
“Hey girl, Tala” Milla spoke, smiling wide as she brought Granny into the sitting room.
“Milla!, where have you been?” Nelley asked, pushing Antony as she walked toward Granny and Milla.
I've been searching for you both
“Sorry girl, it was just a little prank. I saw you through the window with Antony and thought you both were getting along, so I decided to hide with Granny so you both can have your moment when you get in.”
Milla explains as she glances at both of them with a smile. “But it seemed it was a quarrel that was why I decided to come out of my hiding to find out what was going on.”
“ Is there an issue?” she inquired
Nelly looked at her, then at Antony. “Get along?” “ That's not possible, you know,” Nelly said as she bent down to talk to her grandmother.
“Hey, granny are you ok?” she inquired
“Yes, Darling. Are you ok? your face is all swollen and your eyes are red and bulging”
Granny Elisabeth asked Nelly, touching her face and hair softly.
“Yes, granny I'm fine. I think you are exhausted from your moment with Milla. You have to rest now, ok?”
“ Let me take you to your chamber.” She kisses Granny's forehead and then accompanies her to the room.
Milla lets them go a little far away then she turns to Antony, her face grumpy. “What did you do to my friend? Don't tell me anything 'cause I know you well.”
She said lifting one brow and motioning with her head.
“Milla, I won't lie, I don't know what's wrong with her. Met her crying and decided to take her home. She refused to talk to me. You know we have been in contact for a while now. I would not hurt Nelly you know.” Antony struggles to defend himself.
“You liar!!”Milla exclaims, so how will you explain what happened between you both a few months back, uh?
Milla asked bitterly.
“Milla, please know it wasn't my fault, I can explain. Please ju…..”
“Please I'm not in the mood for rationales, I need to find out what is wrong with my friend” She hushed him and then left.
Nelly? she called as she left.
Meeting Nelly in the corridor who made her way to the sitting room where Milla was earlier.
“Hey girl, what's wrong with you?” Milla inquired with concern from Nelly who looked entirely frustrated, hugging her tightly.
“I have been given a month's suspension because I arrived at work late.” Nelly sobs as she explains to Milla, hugging her tight.
“What!!”, Milla exclaims. That's not right if that's the only reason.
That's all girl. I was completely humiliated. I cried my heart out and begged but nothing was done. I can not lose that job girl. Nelly cries.
“It's fine girl, you know I have connections. I will see how to talk to your boss tomorrow, okay? I'll make sure you get your job back. Stop, I hate to see you like this.”
Milla consoles and reassures her.
“Thank you, girl. What can I do without you?” Nelly appreciates Milla as they hug each other tight.
“Ok, girl I have to go now. And you have to rest now okay? Make sure you eat and stop crying.”
Milla continued as Nelly nodded with a smile.
They both moved to the sitting room. Antony comfortably sitting on the couch.
“Antony, you have to go now. Everything has been soothed and I'm fine now. Thank you for everything”.
Nelly hugs Antony just so he can leave.
Then she accompanies both of them to the car out of the house.
“Parting girl. I promise to take care of everything tomorrow.” Milla said as she closed the door of the car and they both left.
Nelly went in absolutely reassured as her countenance began to gleam.
