The town's strategic location meant that it was easy for criminals making an escape from the law to attain a secret entry. It was also relatively easy for them to acquire a new identity and begin a new life in this town. Coyote Ridge was a place where questions were seldom asked, much less answered. Joe Tanner had seen it all. In his 20 years of service in the police force, he had come across all sorts of trouble makers. From the petty thieves and con artists to the more serious murderers and rapists, he had learned how to tackle them all. Joe couldn't say he was a beacon of lawfulness and morality himself
