38 Cloud. Tower block. Lamppost. Cloud, cloud, cloud. Every one of them seemed to whoosh past the rear window of Kyle's truck. Lying across the rear bench on my back, I watched them all come and go. Anything to steal my focus from where I'd just left. Anything to help me ignore Kyle's constant backward glances that sang of pity. Only the two of us had left the mansion. It'd taken Kyle less than five minutes to convince Ethan they hadn't needed us, with whatever he whispered in his ear, and he'd somehow managed to carry me out of there with no further question from any of them.
