TOO WIRED FOR FAKING more pleasantries, I stuck my head around the kitchen door and made my excuses before heading up to my room for the evening. After snatching up my sketchpad and a pencil, I sank down onto my bed, wriggling until I sat propped against the pillows, my knees bent for leaning on. The first page I turned to held my latest unfinished piece. I'd already prepped a faint outline of the eyelids, the shape of the irises, the pupils, and I began adding definition along the left upper lid. About ten minutes in, footsteps approached and my door pushed open. Kyle stepped inside and re-closed the door, heading straight for the windowsill, while I watched him out the corner of my eye. I'd expected him to turn up. Hassling me had slowly grown into his favourite after-dinner pastime.
