Chapter 2

It was later in the morning when the nurse came back to wake them up to finish the paperwork for the birth certificates. They forwarded the information to the administration for approval. Shortly after, the doctor arrived to assess Taylor’s condition. The doctor gave the go-ahead to discharge Taylor in the afternoon. After the doctor left, Taylor took her time to slowly get up and walk around the hospital room. Her movements were slow due to the lingering pain from delivering the twins last night. She gathered her toiletries from her bag and headed towards the bathroom to freshen up. Carson sat waiting for her to reemerge. “Carson, can you give me a hand?” Taylor called out. “Sure,” Carson replied. Carson enters the bathroom to find Taylor struggling to put on her sweatpants. Taylor was bending over to try to pull them up but gave up a second when a wave of pain washed over her. She toughened up to try again. At this point, Carson came over and swatted her hands away to pull them up for her. “You know I could have pulled them up myself,” Taylor comments. “Yes, you could. If I were there to help you, You would have been in here for a while, trying to put them on. I took it upon myself to lend you a hand. You can be stubborn at times,” Carson said. Taylor shooed him out of the bathroom to finish getting ready. Carson took it upon himself to pack the duffle bag. Not long after, Taylor strolled back into the room to place her toiletries in the duffle. Everything was together, including the two car seats for the twins. “We got everything we came with?” Carson asked. “Pretty much. We just need the discharge papers and the twins. Then we can enjoy being new parents,” Taylor emphatically said. “I am ready for no sleep,” Carson whispered to himself. “What was that?” Taylor questioned. “Nothing,” Carson answered as the words died on his lips. A nurse entered the room and asked, “Are we prepared for discharge?” Neither Taylor nor Carson spoke as the door opened wider. The nurse took it upon herself, as that was a yes to come further into the room. She had another nurse help her bring in the twin bassinet in the room. The first nurse grabbed the clipboard with the discharge paper and handed it to Taylor. Taylor took the clipboard from her and signed the paperwork. The other nurse took the clipboard from Taylor and left the room to grab something else. “Good luck,” the nurse said before leaving the room. Carson immediately went over to the first bassinet to grab the first baby and get them dressed. Then I got them settled into the car seat. Taylor slowly got out of bed to help change the second baby and put them in the remaining car seat. Tyler and Delia were squirming and about to cry. Both settled right away and fell back to sleep. The same nurse who took care of the paperwork came back with a wheelchair for Taylor. She motioned for Taylor to take a seat. Carson went around the room to grab the duffle bag and wear it like a backpack. He then grabbed both car seats. The nurse took up the role of pushing the wheelchair out to the parking lot. “Thank you,” Taylor told the nurse after getting up from the wheelchair. “You’re welcome,” the nurse replied, taking the wheelchair as the twins and Taylor were settled in the backseat. “Ready?” Carson asked, getting into the driver’s side. “Ready,” Taylor answered. The ride out of the hospital parking lot was tiresome. The parking lot was not exactly smooth sailing due to the traffic just leaving. The twins woke again and started wailing. Taylor tried her best to get them to settle as much as possible. The twins fell back to sleep. Taylor fell asleep on her own. The ride to the outskirts of Billings was nothing but silence. Carson and Taylor were both silent. The twins woke up to stare at the trees going by. Taylor adjusted the blankets in each of the carriers. Eventually, they got to the house, and Tyler and Delia were still sleeping. Carson pulled the car into the driveway. Carson and Taylor saw a familiar truck. We were not sure which relative had come to visit them. They didn’t acknowledge the truck and instead proceeded to remove the twins from the car. The twins were still sleeping at the moment. Carson locked up the car and busied himself trying to find the house keys. He found the key, and the front door opened before he could do anything. “You’re home!” Mrs. Davies announced this to the others in the house. “Grams, are you going to let them enter the house?” Gregory asked from the living room. “Oh, sorry,” Mrs. Davies apologized, noticing Taylor struggling with one of the carriers. “I may be a werewolf, but these two are not exactly light,” Taylor comments, putting the car seat down and stretching her hand. Gregory came out of the house to help grab the rest of the stuff from the car. “Greg, there’s only the duffle bag Taylor took with her yesterday,” Carson said, coming out to the driveway. “I kind of figured that out. I wanted to help bring it in since you both had the car seats,” Gregory replied, taking the duffle bag from the truck and locking the car afterward. In the living room, Mrs. Davies was talking to twins and whispering how cute they were. Gregory was looking onward from the hallway to the kitchen. Taylor and Carson sat on the couch when the howls from the woods came to welcome the twins to the pack. “When are you going to tell Eli about the twins?” Taylor asked. “I don’t think he wants anything to do with the pack since leaving for university in Georgia,” Carson reassures Taylor. No one mentions anything about Eli. Taylor knew that from their last encounter. It still saddened her, but she moved on from the pain. She’s not angry enough about anything to accept the fact. The twins are her life now.
