Chapter 13

1027 Words

When Layla got home, she found Sabrina's son playing with the only thing her mother had left her—a green-stone pendant. "Give it back." At the sound of her voice, the pendant slipped from Milo's hand. A sharp c***k rang through the living room. The pendant split in two, the green fracture like a fresh wound. Milo froze for a second, then burst into tears. "Mommy! Mommy!" Sabrina rushed in and swept the boy into her arms. "Sweetheart, what happened?" Milo sobbed and pointed straight at Layla. "She scared me!" Gavin entered right behind them, tie loosened, weary and impatient. He looked at Layla as though she had already been convicted. "Why are you bullying Milo?" Layla crouched down. The moment her fingers touched the c***k, her shoulders trembled. She thought of her mother again.
