Blake dropped his playful demeanor and sat up straight. "I couldn't read Damian. We'll go in together, ask him directly—lay our cards on the table. If the answer's no, then it's no. He's hardly our only prospective client." Layla set down her coffee. "I'll go alone." Blake stared at her. "Alone?" Before the word was even out of his mouth, Layla had left the counter and walked straight into Damian's office without knocking. Something about it nagged at Blake. 'What is it?' Layla seemed a little too casual around Damian. Stranger still, Damian seemed almost a little too... indulgent with Layla. That wasn't quite the right word, yet Blake couldn't shake the feeling that something between them was off. Everyone said Damian was ruthless—the kind of man who'd destroy his own half-sibling
