CHAPTER 1: FOREVER

994 Words
Meena stood near the large floor to ceiling glass windows of the grand penthouse, staring down at the sparkling diamond on her ring finger. The ring was massive, an exquisite cut that caught the ambient gold lights of the room and shimmered with every tiny movement of her hand. Even now, looking at it, she could hardly believe it was real. Just a few hours ago, in front of a room filled with high society figures, royalty, and business titans, the most eligible bachelor of the century had dropped to one knee. Today marked exactly one year since they had first met. One year since her simple, quiet world had collided with the power and wealth of Alexander Sterling. Alexander Sterling. The name alone commanded absolute respect across the global business world. He was a multi billionaire, ruthless in the boardroom, feared by his rivals, and endlessly chased by the media. But to her, he was simply Alex, the man who held her heart with a gentle strength. Looking back, Meena couldn't help but smile softly. The day they met, falling in love had been the absolute last thing on either of their minds. It was supposed to be purely professional, a strict boundary that neither was meant to cross. Yet, slowly, day after day, his guarded exterior had melted away only for her. They weren't supposed to fall in love, but fate had other plans. And now, here they were. In just three short weeks, they were scheduled to walk down the aisle and say "I do" to forever. Behind her, the faint sound of clinking glasses, classical violin music, and cheerful laughter echoed from the main hall. The after party for their engagement was in full swing, filled with powerful guests drinking expensive champagne to celebrate the country's grandest upcoming wedding. But Meena had stepped away into the quiet, dimly lit private balcony lounge just to catch her breath. "Hiding from our guests, my sweet?" The deep, velvety voice made Meena’s heart flutter instantly. She turned around to see Alexander stepping into the room. He looked breathtakingly handsome, dressed in a custom, perfectly tailored black Italian designer tuxedo. His dark hair was styled neatly, and his sharp, captivating eyes softened the moment they landed on her. In his hand, he held a crystal glass filled with vintage red wine. Alex walked toward her with slow, confident strides. Every move he made oozed power and wealth, yet as he approached her, his gaze held nothing but pure devotion. "I wasn't hiding," Meena said softly, a brilliant smile breaking across her face as he reached her side. "I was just... trying to convince myself that this isn't a dream." Alex set his wine glass down on a nearby marble table and reached out, slipping his arms around her waist. He pulled her flush against his chest, his warm scent of expensive cologne and oak wrapping around her senses like a cozy blanket. "It's not a dream, Meena," Alex murmured softly, leaning down to press a gentle kiss onto her temple. "You are completely awake, and you are officially mine." Meena leaned her head against his broad chest, listening to the steady, comforting beat of his heart. She raised her left hand, letting the bright diamond catch the light once more. "Look at this, Alex," she whispered, her voice full of quiet awe. "It's so grand. Everyone out there is talking about the wedding . They're talking about how grand it's gonna be, the Sterling name, the lavish venues... but none of that matters to me." Alex tilted her chin up gently with his thumb and forefinger, forcing her to look into his dark, intense eyes. "Then what matters to you, my love?" Meena looked deep into his eyes, her heart swelling with an emotion so deep it almost made her eyes sting with tears. "Only us," she said in a clear, sincere voice. "I don't care about the grand party or the headlines, Alex. I only want our love to last forever. I just want us to stay like this, safe and together, no matter what happens." A soft, profoundly tender smile broke across Alexander Sterling’s normally cold, stern face. He looked up toward the clear night sky visible through the high windows, where a bright full moon hung amidst a blanket of stars. Forever was a long time, but with Meena, it didn't feel long enough. He loved his fiancee to the absolute fullest. He had built an empire worth billions, but she was the only treasure he truly cared about protecting. Nothing in this world could ever tear them apart. He would make sure of it. "Our love will last forever, Meena. I promise you," Alex whispered softly, bringing his gaze back down to hers. "Nothing in this world can ever change what I feel for you." He bent his head down and pressed his lips against hers, a slow, passionate kiss that sealed his promise in the quiet night air. Meena wrapped her arms around his neck, sinking into his warmth, completely lost in the magic of the moment. They stood together in the quiet room, holding each other tightly, completely wrapped in their shared joy, dreaming of the bright future waiting for them in just three weeks. They had no idea that far away from the music and luxury of the Sterling penthouse, a quiet storm was already brewing. Deep inside a private, high security medical facility on the other side of the city, soft green lights flickered in the dark. A machine that had been beeping steadily for five long years suddenly accelerated, its steady rhythm turning into a sharp, urgent pattern. In the center of the room, on a white hospital bed, long pale eyelashes fluttered weakly. A heavy, sudden thunderstorm was heading straight toward Alex and Meena's perfect world, a storm from the past that was about to test their promise of forever to its absolute limit.
