Chapter 6: She Called Him Darling

1015 Words
Hannah didn't respond. It was an open secret, and yet he was pretending. What a prideful rascal! Meanwhile, Juliet returned from the hospital to the villa. She wept with frustration over Clyde's stubbornness. "Clyde is nearly thirty, and he's still in his rebellious phase. What should I do?" She took out her phone and ordered a set of Cartier ruby jewelry. "This is too heartbreaking. I'll charge it to his card." After swiping the card, she remembered, "Last night I snuck into the study and reassigned Hannah to be his secretary. Now they can gradually fall for each other! "I am so smart and sweet. I deserve another set of jewelry!" Clyde, oblivious to all this, viewed the resignation request on his screen and casually rejected it. "Are you dissatisfied with your salary?" "No," Hannah mumbled. She was just dissatisfied with her boss. "It's personal reasons." "Personal reasons?" Clyde frowned, "Because of a heartbreak, you need time to ease and vent?" He didn't give Hannah a chance to refuse further, "Where does your ex-boyfriend work? If I play your new boyfriend and tell him how terrible he is, would that help speed up your recovery from the heartbreak?" The first step to uncover the truth was to keep Hannah stable and prevent her from actually resigning and leaving his sight. In a split second, Clyde made up his mind. Hannah felt conflicted. She knew this must be Clyde's trick, but the temptation of "slapping her ex-boyfriend in the face" was too huge! "Fine, let's go now." She would take this chance to take back the ring. She believed that in front of Clyde, Zane wouldn't dare to act rashly. Hannah stepped forward. But she lost her balance and nearly tripped over her feet. Clyde quickly caught her by the waist, his teeth gritted, "Take good care of yourself. It hurts me to see you injured!" He didn't want to go through the agony he experienced at the hospital that morning again! Hannah felt the hand on her waist burning hot. She immediately pushed Clyde away and steadied herself. "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Lawson." He remained so elegant while harassing her. Hannah walked out of the office with big strides and headed to Zane's company with Clyde. But as soon as they reached the lobby, the receptionist stopped them. "Mr. Archer forbade you to bring him lunch anymore. He hates your cooking! "Understand?" Hannah certainly understood. She had sent Zane lunch for nine months, and when others asked, Zane claimed she was just a delivery person. "Mr. Archer doesn't like you. Don't flatter yourself, Hannah." The receptionist looked down on Hannah, expecting her to explode with rage as usual. But this time, Hannah smiled. "How do you know I found a boyfriend who is tall, handsome, and rich?" "Who asked you that?" The receptionist was utterly confused. Hannah feigned surprise, "Huh? You even know my boyfriend is the CEO of a big company?" "I don't know!" "Now you do," Hannah said, satisfied. Just then, Clyde entered, dignified and elegant. Each movement was refined and noble. Hannah clung to his arm, radiant like a delicate rose. "Darling, say hello to my old friend here. We're really close. She often tells me to get lost!" Clyde's arm stiffened. "What did you call me?" he asked in a low voice. "Darling." Hannah maintained her smile, feeling just as weird as he did. After all, it was her first time using such a mushy nickname. Clyde coolly shook off her arm, "You only need to tell them my name, and they'll naturally let you through." Hannah explained, "If we don't appear close, Zane won't believe our relationship. I'm the one who was betrayed and abandoned. More than making him submit, I want him to regret it. Can you understand my feelings, Mr. Lawson?" "Sure." Clyde nodded emotionlessly. If it weren't for fear that she'd kick the flower pot again in a moment of sorrow and then accidentally involve him in heartache, he wouldn't let Hannah drag him into playing her boyfriend! Hannah sighed in relief and then told the receptionist, "Contact Zane, I'm here to take back my ring. Otherwise, my darling will be upset." "Mr. Archer allows you to go up." The receptionist reluctantly contacted Zane and got the go-ahead. Hannah nodded and smiled. She attempted to hook Clyde's arm to keep up appearances, but she was hesitant to truly touch him. She lightly brushed against him before letting go. Her arm accidentally bumped into his palm. Startled, Hannah quickly retracted her arm. "I didn't mean to," she whispered. Clyde narrowed his eyes and took the lead to the elevator. She didn't mean to touch his hand. Did she mean he deliberately stretched out his hand for her touch? "Humph, what a hypocritical woman!" he sneered inwardly. The receptionist didn't activate the elevator access. She wanted them to use the staircase to the twelfth floor. Hannah led Clyde toward the elevator and explained, "Around this time, the procurement department will head downstairs. We can sneak in then." She used to do that often! "What did you bring me here for?" Clyde took out his phone and sent a message. "Ms. Carter, you seem to know nothing about my status." Clyde was somewhat helpless toward Hannah's naivety. With his status, how could he possibly sneak up using the service elevator? Hannah didn't get his point. Then she saw a middle-aged man in a suit appearing at the opening elevator doors. "Mr. Lawson, it's such an honor to have you here." Hannah was astonished. The owner of Zane's company, Lucian Quinn, personally came down to greet Clyde! Lucian glanced at Hannah and asked Clyde, "Mr. Lawson, this lady is..." "Can't you tell?" Clyde was speechless under Hannah's loving gaze. Lucian looked at Hannah just in time to see her roll her eyes. "Uh..." Lucian pretended not to see. "Her admiration for you is obvious. I'm sure the two of you are in a great relationship. Everything you asked me to arrange is ready. Zane is upstairs waiting for you!"
